Robert Pattinson wasn’t too young to star in #HighLife thanks to delay in filming
Â
The Observer posted an article today in which Claire Denis said the following about Rob and High Life:
The actor she’s enthused about now is Robert Pattinson, who stars in her upcoming High Life, an English-language drama set in space. She didn’t choose Pattinson, she says, although she’s rated him since Twilight; he approached her. “I thought he was too young, too good-looking. But then the film was delayed and he said, ‘You see? I’m getting older.’â€
What High Life will be like, once she’s finished the special effects, is anyone’s guess. What we do know is that the English dialogue is not, as was reported, written by Zadie Smith and Nick Laird; Denis didn’t see eye to eye with them. “We don’t have the same philosophy of life.†Conversely, she got on famously with Olafur Eliasson, the Icelandic-Danish artist behind the legendary Tate Modern “sun†installation, whose signature yellow light somehow feeds into High Life’s overall concept. “He was very important to the film because I can talk to him about space. I also worked with a marvellous astrophysicist, Aurélien Barrau, and now they’re working together too.â€
Claire Denis is so bad ass – no wonder Rob called her punk. She’s my kind of woman.

Robert Pattinson Not Attached to David Michôd’s #TheKing
Â
Interesting tweet this morning from Justin Kroll of Variety confirming that Rob is not attached to star in The King. Â We have posted previously that there were rumours he was involved and it is listed on IMDbPro, but as we know (and has been pointed out to us numerous times over the past 10 years), IMDb is NOT gospel. Â For now, I’m taking Justin’s tweet as confirmation of Rob’s non-involvement with this film. Â To be honest, not sure where Rob may find the time to film this in June in any event given that The Lighthouse is being filmed up until May and then there’s talk of The Souvenir: Part 2 and Waiting for the Barbarians. Â Time will tell of course if we’re all wrong. Â In the meantime, I am hanging up my “speculation cap” and am content to just wait and hear official confirmation about what the next project will be that Rob and David have up their sleeves. Â After all, patience is a virtue.

Robert Pattinson Films Predicted to Premiere at Cannes 2018
[Denis] is incredible. I’m not just saying that, she’s like one of the most fascinating people to work for. I was saying to her at the end of the shoot, she’s the most authentic punk that I’ve even met in my life. Just someone who can control a set. She’s so tiny, and to me she’s the most definitive auteur I’ve ever worked with as well.” Robert Pattinson, 2017
2012 saw Rob on the Croisette in competition for the first time with David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis“. Two years later Rob would be back on that red carpet, firstly for a special midnight screening of David Michôd’s “The Rover” (not in competition) and then for his second David Cronenberg film in competition “Maps to the Stars“. 2017 saw Rob return yet again for another film in competition, the Safdie Bros “Good Time” which received a 6 minute standing ovation and garnered great reviews for not just the film but Rob’s performance. This year we are waiting patiently until 12 April to see if Claire Denis’s “High Life” makes the cut as predicted by the following media outlets:
SCREEN DAILY
The UK had a strong presence in 2017 topped by joint best screenplay winners Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Hereand Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Killing Of A Sacred Deer. While Lanthimos’s follow-up, bawdy period drama The Favourite, is believed to be aiming for an autumn debut, there are plenty of UK titles thought to be heading for the Croisette. Among titles tipped for a possible Cannes splash are Joanna Hogg’s romantic mystery The Souvenir: Part 1, executive-produced by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert Pattinson, Tom Burke, Ariane Labed and Richard Ayoade  … while hopes are high that Claire Denis will finish her sci-fi tale High Life, starring Robert Pattinson, Mia Goth and Juliette Binoche, in time for a Cannes splash.  [MARIA: Although we know Rob’s not in The Souvenir: Part 1 it would not surprise me if he turns up in a cameo in that film. Stranger things have happened as we all know.]
VARIETY
And then there are Cannes regulars Naomi Kawase, whose “Visionâ€Â will almost surely be invited, and French director Claire Denis, poised to land her first competition berth in 30 years (since 1988’s “Chocolatâ€) for her ambitious, English-language sci-fi drama “High Lifeâ€Â with Robert Pattinson. Coincidentally, both films star busy French actress Juliette Binoche, who has yet another shot at competition, reteaming with “The Clouds of Sils Maria†director Olivier Assayas for “Non Fiction,â€Â set in the French publishing world. [My emphasis]
LE BLOG DU CINEMA
France will of course have a say in the race at La Palme. After Market Law , Stéphane Brizé could return to Cannes with Another World (still with Vincent Lindon in the lead role), the story of employees trying to save their jobs. Eva Husson discovered with Bang Gang (a modern love story)  has her chances with The Girls of the Sun who dwells on the fate of Kurdish fighters. A strong subject! We would very much like to see Claire Denis and her High Life (an SF movie with Robert Pattinson !)…[My emphasis]
INDIEWIRE
“High Lifeâ€
Director:Â Claire Denis
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche
The beloved French auteur is a Cannes regular — she’s screened four of her features at the festival, plus she led the Un Certain Regard jury back in 2010 — so to say that Cannes is a natural fit for her spacey new film is an understatement. This is where “High Life†belongs, and should our prediction out, the film (Denis’ first English-language feature!) will likely be one of the more talked about offerings on the Croisette. Starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche, the film follows a group of criminals who are sent on a space mission straight into a black hole, all under the assumption that the mission will ultimately lead to their freedom. That’s weird enough, but the film also reportedly builds in a subplot about sexual experimentation that makes it even more out there. Pattinson himself has already called the project “definitely nuts,†and that’s saying something. –KE

Robert Pattinson talks about the Safdie Bros and filming Good Time
Â
Rob has mentioned being directed via text messages before, but I’m not sure we’ve seen him talking to W Mag about it, the Safdie Bros and Good Time. Â Anyway don’t think anyone will mind watching and listening to Rob again.

New Synopsis for David Michôd’s The King (which may or may not feature Robert Pattinson)
Other than a few media outlets reporting it and Rob’s name being added to this project on IMDbPro (not to mention all the speculation the above photo may have caused from the Vogue party earlier this week), we really don’t have any official confirmation of Rob’s involvement yet. In the meantime, Porchlight Films (Liz Watts is co-producing) has provided this new synopsis in their recent news update:
The King is an historical epic set against the varied textures of Medieval Britain in the early 1400s and based loosely on the life of Henry V, culminating in the famous English victory over French forces at the Battle of Agincourt. [My emphasis]
I know some have been speculating on which role Rob may play (if he is involved). It’s impossible to know exactly what David or Joel have in mind, so I’m just going to wait and see rather than speculate. As you know, regardless of whether Rob is involved or not, it’s a David Michôd film so I’m in.
