Variety recently spoke with Warner Media’s Ann Sarnoff given the release of Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” and this is what she had to say about the future of the DC Universe and gives us a little tidbit on “The Batman“:
Instead, Sarnoff believes that the future of DC is more than just movies. She’s excited about a multi-platform future, one that sees Batman, Superman, the Flash, and other Justice League members popping up on streaming shows, video games, television spinoffs, and big screen outings. It’s a vision that echoes what Marvel has been doing with its Avengers characters, taking superheroes like the Vision, the Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye and Loki, who have previously appeared only in movies, and giving them streaming shows of their own.Â
…
Looking at the DC slate, there seems to be an emphasis on creating opportunities for diverse creators and and characters. … Is there a concerted effort to take the brand in a more inclusive direction?
It’s super important to me and it’s in line with what we want to do. We want to branch out and let creators interpret parts of the universe in unique and special ways. … Matt Reeves just finished filming “The Batman†against the odds of COVID. We’re so excited to finish that movie and have people see it, because Matt’s take on Batman is different than other takes. Even familiar characters have lots of possibilities.
Charlie Carver talks The Batman with Wonderland Magazine
Wonderland recently interviewed Charlie Carver who had not very much to say about The Batman, but did give us this:
Next up for Carver will be the much-hyped The Batman alongside Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz. As excited as he is about it, he’s sworn to secrecy about everything but no doubt our patience will be rewarded when it’s released in 2022. It’s been fun getting to do stunts, I’ll tell you that much, says Carver cheekily. We’ll take that
Claire Denis Talks The Stars at Noon and Robert Pattinson with Doha Film Institute
Claire Denis talked Rob and The Stars at Noon during Qumra. This from the Doha Film Institute:
On her upcoming film, The Stars at Noon, featuring Robert Pattinson and Margaret Qualley, Denis said she “hopes to do it in the fall because by then the vaccination will have been [done] and we will be able to shoot.â€
On Robert, she said, “He is someone I met surprisingly because he wanted to meet me, and I was shy and surprised but then I realised I was meant to work with him. It was like someone I knew already, he was so open, so generous, so mysterious too.â€
The Batman Second Unit Director describes the film as “phenomenal”
Although it appears that Bradley Parker may not have worked directly with Rob on The Batman, this is what he had to say about the film to ComicBookMovie.com (not that we needed any further convincing that it would be):
I’ve finished filming on that. I directed the Chicago second unit. It was an absolute blast,” Parker revealed…I’ve always loved working with Matt Reeves, and that’s another project, like Loki, which is going to be incredible. They’re both phenomenal projects.
George Cleverley shoes was founded in 1958 by a soldier-turned-shoemaker of the same name. Famed as much for his chisel-toed Oxfords, Derbies and loafers – designed expressly for carving up the sidewalks of the world’s most elegant neighbourhoods – as for having an understated approach to the craft of haute cobbling, the company’s unique vision continues today under the aegis of George Glasgow and his son, George Junior, who have infused it with a fresh new sense of 21st-century relevance.
Case in point, Cleverley – which has, over the years, created shoes for everyone from Winston Churchill to Bryan Ferry – is currently responsible for finishing the feet of the biggest names in Hollywood and beyond…
What’s more, Cleverley has also designed the shoes that will be worn by Robert Pattinson for his turn as Bruce Wayne in the next instalment of the Batman franchise, Matt Reeves’ The Batman. That’s right, the Dark Knight wears Cleverley shoes.
…
You dress a lot of big name actors. How did all these relationships come about?
We’ve had a long relationship with Hollywood – Fred Astaire and Humphrey Bogart wore Cleverley – but today we’ve got some really cool British actors, Henry Cavill, Jason Statham and Colin Firth, who are coming to us for their own shoes but also for the movies they’re in. We’re working with the costume designers for The Batman, for instance. When Robert Pattinson is playing Bruce Wayne he’ll be wearing Cleverley. We suggested a black calf Oxford to Pattinson and the team, but it wasn’t working so we ended up going for a black pebble calf Derby with a Dainite sole – it’s a style that we called the Henry – and you wouldn’t have thought it was a Bruce Wayne shoe. It’s got a bit of texture to it, a bit of character. [My emphasis]
THE BATMAN Films & HBO Max GCPD Spinoff Will Crossover | .@Batmanonfilm
THE WRAP recently interviewed HBO programming president Casey Bloys and discussed the the potential of character crossover between DC films and their HBO Max spinoffs. Below is an extract from Batman on Film’s post about what Casey had to say concerning Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN and the “Gotham City PD†streaming spinoff and BOF’s thoughts:
“[Character crossover is] the idea. Matt Reeves is obviously a producer on ‘Gotham City PD.’ We don’t want to reserve characters just for films or for TV. There should be kind of some fluidity between them. So that is the idea. I mean, we’re in the very early stages on that. So I don’t want to suggest that any one character will be. But yes, that is, generally speaking, that is the idea, that there will be crossover.”
I’m just guessing here, but I suspect that “GCPD†will have a “main cast†and that characters that appear in THE BATMAN and its sequels will show up on the TV series. So, perhaps we’ll see Jeffery Wright’s James Gordon appear in an episode or two.
As far as The Batman himself, Robert Pattinson, well, we know that the HBO Max series is set in year one of Batman’s career (and before the events we’ll see in THE BATMAN), so I figure it’s possible that he might show up briefly at some point. Of course, whether or not it’s actually Pattinson in the suit is another thing altogether. But one can hope!
