Christopher Nolan Talks Robert Pattinson Driving Skills & Bungee Jumping in Tenet

imgbox

With the release of Tenet on DVD/Bluray/4K in the US, Christopher Nolan talks with USA Today. Below is the excerpt concerning comments about Rob:

Question: So how did you tell John David Washington and Robert Pattinson that they’d actually be bungee-jumping onto a tall Mumbai building?

Christopher Nolan: I left that to George Cottle, our stunt coordinator, who came up with the idea of actually bungee jumping up the building, which was pretty spectacular, and I added it to the script. He said to them, “We want you to do the first half of this yourselves and actually launch you into the air over the street.” They trusted him to find a way to do that and I think they actually had fun at the end of the day.

Q: Robert Pattinson is so believably self-deprecating about his driving. How was he behind the wheel, really?

Nolan: Rob was assessed by the stunt teams as a talented driver. We were able to get him do a lot of his closeups using a mounted camera. So he and John David would be in the car with cameras mounted on the side. We were also able to achieve a number of shots with different techniques in the sequence, but there are a couple of really hair-raising shots where Rob’s in the driver’s seat. What’s actually happening is there’s a stunt driver behind his head – facing the other way. And the entire shot is filmed in reverse. We’re able to get the camera right in on him as the driver, even though he’s actually the passenger, moving backwards.

Robert Pattinson Voted Best Actor 2020 & More | Humo Magazine (Belgium) “Film Year Overview”

image host

Rob seems to be a favourite at Humo Magazine. Here’s how they have decided their Film Year Overview – laughing at their solution to rid Ostend of seagulls.

BEST ACTOR 2020

1. Robert Pattinson In ‘Tenet’ he slipped with gusto in the flannel suit of a secret agent who seems to have run away from a John le Carré novel , in ‘The Lighthouse’ he wore the cap of a crazy lighthouse keeper, and in ‘The Devil All the Time ‘he preached into a sweat like a pastor who goes to work with underage girls. Hats off three times.

MOST ALIEN TABLE

1. Robert Pattinson and John David Washington who stare in ‘Tenet’ at bullets that are the result of a shooting … which has yet to happen!

MOST EASIEST SCENE

2. Since he has seen him whack a gull to a pulp in ‘The Lighthouse’, Mayor Bart Tommelein has been doing everything he can to get Robert Pattinson to Ostend to solve the gull nuisance.

BEST MOVIE

1. ‘ Tenet ‘ (★★★★★ )In the year that ‘No Time to Die’ disappeared from the calendar and Sean Connery , the one and only 007, gave his last gasp, Christopher Nolan turned on between lockdowns with an overwhelming ( ‘You wanna crash a plane?‘) spy thriller that can best be described as a surreal Bond film. The philosophy of the grandfather paradox and the temporal pincer movement turned out to be an insurmountable stumbling block for many spectators, but admit it: of all living filmmakers, only Nolan is able to come up with a smashing and completely credible climax in which several hundred soldiers clash with opponents who are in a reverse flow of time.

2. ‘ The Lighthouse ‘ (★★★★ ½) Lighthouse keepers Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson hooking their arms together like mad bitches and stamping their feet on the floor while singing ‘Sassy little whore, hurray!’ : it is just one of the many crazy highlights in this hard-hitting masterpiece by top talent Robert Eggers.

Thanks Sara for heads up.

The Transformation of Robert Pattinson is Complete

image host

Rob attended the latest Dior Fashion Show “virtually” and wore this amazing ensemble that was featured on the catwalk by the Dior models. Esquire posted this great write up about Rob and exclusively shared the pic above:

Career changes aren’t simple. Less so when you’re in Hollywood. And yet Robert Pattinson’s move from hunky teen haematophage to film star proper has been simple…We think of an actor that is talented, and one that boasts some chops that are likely to close in on a big shiny award sometime soon.

Adjacent to this professional transformation has been a personal one. As Pattinson bulked out his CV, he bulked out his wardrobe.

He’s doing his own thing. And, in a shot revealed exclusively to Esquire, he continues to do so. As a Dior frontman and regular attendee to the brand’s spectacle-heavy runway shows, Pattinson didn’t let the side down, and showed up (digitally! Social distance! Stay ALERT!) in the most recent of Kim Jones’ creations, settling further into his niche for solid menswear that shouldn’t make sense, but simply does.

Just as Dior blasted off into the cosmos as models loped against a backdrop of Luc Besson-esque supernovas, there was something undeniably alien about Pattinson’s pairing of a printed roll-neck, a printed shirt, overcoat and beanie (look 29, by the way). This wasn’t for classicists. But it was familiar. Thanks to another collab with artist Kenny Scharf (a longstanding mechanism of Dior’s shows after crossovers with Hajime Sorayama and Shawn Stussy), we’ve seen these hi-graphic, surreal, Nerds-bright cartoons on murals and artworks before. They helped reshape New York as an artistic centre back in the Nineties.

Now, they’re not only helping reshape one of the oldest, most storied fashion brands on the planet, but they’re doing the same for one of its actors, who, coincidentally, is also one of the most famous of his kind on the planet. And like Dior, he doesn’t always play by said planet’s rules.

Christopher Nolan Talks Robert Pattinson, Tenet & Possible Sequel with ET

If you were on social media today you may have seen Christopher Nolan’s reaction to Warner Bros release their 2021 films simultaneously in cinema and on demand. ET took the opportunity to speak with both Nolan and John David Washington via Zoom whilst there appear to be doing a mini junket for the LA release. In the interview Christopher Nolan mentioned Rob and quite possibly did not close the door on a sequel to Tenet. Here’s what he had to say, but be warned if you have not seen the film it contains ***SPOILERS*** so stop reading.

Soon, everyone who wants to will be able to see Tenet — some for the first time, some on repeat watch. This is a movie that really calls for repeat viewings to fully take everything in. Do you have a message for those viewers diving back in, a piece of rewatch advice or something they should focus on this time?

… With Rob, there’s a lot of layers to what he’s doing that if you watch it again, you see a very different performance the second time, which is really fun. I love working on films where if you’re interested to watch it again, there’s something else to be found there.

In the end, Neil tells the Protagonist he is only halfway through his story. Conceivably, there is more to explore in this world. Is there more you want to tell? Or is this Tenet chapter closed for you?

Nolan: The only honest answer to that is that every film I’ve done, you try to put everything you can into the one movie, but you like to create a world that lives on in the mind of the audience, lives on in my mind, all the rest. Sometimes you’re drawn to revisiting that, sometimes you’re not. A lot of it is to do with the audience response. It’s up to the audience to tell us what they make of it and what they’re interested in. I mean, certainly the possibilities are there.

Thanks @Pattinsongifs for the gif!

Dimple Kapadia mentions Robert Pattinson in her interview with Pinkvilla

imgbox

With the release of Tenet in India tomorrow, 4 December 2020, Pinkvilla had an exclusive interview with Dimple Kapadia who plays Priya in the film. This is what she had to say about working with Rob:

What did Christopher Nolan, John David Washington and Robert Pattinson make of the overwhelming fan response when they came to India for Tenet’s shoot?

It was very welcoming for them. Having said that, no one stepped out of line or disturbed the shoot. There were fans who had come and were so much in awe of him [Nolan]. I felt like a Maharani thinking he’s come to my country, I have to show them the hospitality of India and stay close to them. I really felt like a Maharaja, literally!

Elizabeth Debicki on Robert Pattinson “He is a hysterically funny human being”

imgbox

Pinkvilla is celebrating the upcoming release of Tenet in India on 4 December with an article on Elizabeth Debicki. This is what she had to say about Rob:

Finally, on Pattinson, Elizabeth kept it simple, sweet and effective, revealing, “And Robert Pattinson is obviously a fantastic actor, but also an absolutely hysterically funny human being.”

On her experience of working on Tenet with such a brilliant cast, Debicki summarised, “As an actor, you’re one piece of a whole, and so much of your experience of making something is determined by other people’s personalities and their senses of humour or their attitudes toward work.  And I was with these actors every day who, first of all, I deeply respected their performances, but I also found them to be the most beautiful people to work with.”

“So I think I was very blessed that amidst often really intense pieces of very high-octane work, I had these people around me. And we were truly bonded by the end of this movie because we were on it for a long time and we experienced a lot of things together in many different countries, so it was really amazing. Genuinely, I love them deeply,” Elizabeth concluded.
