There’s been chatter that Tim Roth is no longer involved with The Childhood of A Leader. If you remember, we posted that Protagonist included Tim Roth in the cast back in August 2014.  But below is a screenshot of Protagonist’s current cast list.
Â
I think it’s odd that there’s been no official mention that he’s no longer involved. Screen Daily has included TCoaL in its Screenbase Hot Projects and I noted the absence of Tim Roth’s name:
“Brady Corbet’s The Childhood Of A Leader
This directorial feature debut is currently shooting in Hungary. Berenice Bejo, Robert Pattinson, Stacy Martin, Liam Cunningham, Yolande Moreau and Sophie Curtis star. The film charts the birth of a terrifying ego during the rise of fascism in the early 20th century.
Producers are Chris Coen, Antoine de Clermont-Tonnerre, Helena Danielsson and Istvan Major. Ron Curtis, Brian Young, Aaron L. Gilbert, Michael Sherman, Matthew Perniciaro and Patrick Murray executive produce, with Genevieve Lemal co-producing.”
I’m still holding out hope that he’s in the film because he’s on my personal list of underrated and loved actors. And before someone reminds me, I’m aware that Roth’s currently filming Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, but it’s not the first time an actor has filmed 2 movies concurrently. DeNiro is reportedly working on 2 films at the moment and as Vertigo and Michelle reminded me, Giamatti was working on Cosmopolis and Rock of Ages. I guess we should know soon enough though.
Updated 2 March 2015:
Guess there’s no room for any doubt now that Tim Roth’s name has been removed from the cast list and indeed replaced by Liam Cunningham on IMDbPro:
Â
Variety is reporting that Liam Cunningham (who if you’re like me and addicted to Game of Thrones will know him as Davos) has joined The Childhood of a Leader that is currently being filmed in Budapest:
““Game of Thrones†star Liam Cunningham has joined the cast of “The Childhood of a Leader,†which has now begun shooting in Hungary.
The Robert Pattinson and Berenice Bejo-starring picture is the directorial debut of Brady Corbet and is a chilling story of fascism in the early 20th century.
The story sees an American family settling in the French countryside at the end of WWI . The father is involved in the peace negotiations and his wife is a devoutly Christian stay-at-home mother. Their young son is a defiant seven year-old whose seemingly harmless tantrums begin to demonstrate a monster in the making.”
Ha! I’ve just remembered Rob’s addiction for Game of Thrones as well – he will be so excited to be in a film with Davos!
And according to Deadline:
“Liam Cunningham, Yolande Moreau and Sophie Curtis are joining Berenice Bejo, Robert Pattinson and Stacy Martin in Brady Corbet’s feature helming debut, The Childhood Of A Leader. The film is currently shooting.”
We knew about Sophie Curtis, but Yolane Moreau is a new addition to the cast. Apparently, Yolande Moreau is a Belgian comedian, actress, film director and screenwriter. Will post more when we know character names. As yet nothing added to IMDbPro
Not that we need any more proof, but I just wanted another reason to post a pic of Rob and Charlie. IMDbPro has been pretty quick in updating with a 2016 release. I guess they’re as excited as moi.
Oh and The Childhood of A Leader is now officially listed as “Filming” as at 3 February 2015. You’ll see that Lost City of Z is the only upcoming film for Rob this year at this stage. Nothing more on Hold On To Me since it’s still listed as “Development Unknown”. Idol’s Eye feels like it was a dream or more like a tease and no reference to a Harmony Korine film. Although some of you might still be holding out hope since Benecio Del Toro and Jamie Foxx are the only cast listed. Anyway I have a gut feeling we will be hearing about something very soon …

Update 6 February 2015:
Life now had it’s production status changed to “released” and it’s moved out of films in production to past films
Note:Â This list updated frequently – new extracts will always be added to bottom of this post

Remember back on 9 December 2014 we mentioned that Little White Lies listed “LIFE” as a must see in 2015. I’ve seen a couple more “must see” lists and thought I’d put them all in one post:
Little White Lies:
 “LIFE
Directed by Anton Corbijn
Released 25 September, 2015
We still shiver when recollecting the luscious monochrome of Corbijn’s Ian Curtis pic, Control. Interim efforts may not have packed so intense a punch but the legacy of his debut lives on. The Dutch photographer created the effect of characters moving through a world so textured that it seemed to have its own pulse. For Life — the story of a photographer and his relationship with James Dean, Dane DeHaan plays the original rebel without a cause opposite reformed heartthrob, Robert Pattinson. Let’s see what he makes of them.â€
DAZED (Films to Watch out for in 2015):
“LIFE
Ex-photographer and Control helmer Anton Corbijn seems like the perfect person to direct Life. That’s basically because it’s based on the real-life bromance between Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock and icon of cool James Dean. Robert Pattinson plays Stock, Dane DeHaan is James Dean, and they head up a cast that includes Ben Kingsley as tough-talking studio head Jack Warner, and Joel Edgerton as picture editor/photography pioneer John G Morris. Expect this one to clean up when awards season comes around in 2016.

We don’t have photos of Rob on set as yet, and to be honest, I don’t mind if we don’t get any much like we didn’t with The Rover. Makes seeing the trailer or any stills all the more exciting for me personally, but we have personally had confirmation that The Childhood of A Leader has most definitely started filming.
I’m currently updating the look of our “Films” pages, but if you want to keep up to date with The Childhood of A Leader or use as a quick reference point, you should bookmark our The Childhood of a Leader page. Exciting times!
According to Michael Epp’s website
“10.02.2015 “Childhood of a leader”
In the directorial debut from actor Brady Corbet, Michael will start shooting in Budapest in february. Cast also inlcudes Robert Pattinson, Tim Roth and Benerice Bejo.”
Now let’s not all get TOO excited because we’ve been burned before. I’m not sure whether this is the commencement of filming, when Michael’s due on set or whether it is 100% accurate. But it looks promising so I will just go with that.
Also although we knew Michael was involved in TCoAL his name has only just been added to IMDbPro as has Sophie Curtis (hmmm she was in Nicholas Jarecki’s Arbitrage – small world)
Thanks @sallyvg for heads up on Michael Epp’s website
