The anticipation of waiting to see Rob as a character in his latest movie is always tough.  But then the excitement that surrounds the first still released.  That happens to me for every one of Rob’s films, but when I glimpsed Rey I knew we were in for something special.  Here’s a selection of a few (or most) of my faves of Rey.  Still gutted that Rob was overlooked for this effective portrayal.

At this stage of the story, Rey is alone in the motel room struggling with Eric’s harsh words that his brother has left him behind to die and if he didn’t learn to fight, his death would come very soon. We initially see him curled up on the bed like a scared, lost child. He then sits up, guzzles some water, and then proceeds to load bullets into a gun sitting on dresser, which is where my selected clip begins.

What I find so compelling is that there is no dialogue, yet we can very much feel Rey’s vulnerability. A testament to Rob’s ability to convey so much with his facial expressions, especially so when he discovers his random gun shot has taken the life of an innocent child.

This montage could have gone on for pages and pages, but I just selected some of my favourite pics.  There may be a gif or two in there *grins*

Rey

We are very excited to say that we are bringing back our Golden Years series 🙂 As you can see, we are kicking things off with The Rover. How to chose a favourite scene from The Rover, now that is NOT an easy task. Actually, at first thought, it is an impossibility almost. I adore every second of this film & Rob’s phenomenal portrayal of Rey. He gets me right in the heart every.single.time. When having to choose though, I just couldn’t go past this scene. Rey’s recalling of a time in his childhood, his enthusiasm when explaining it to Eric, despite his non interest. Rey’s body language, little smiles & giggles, a brief bit of joy, him opening up & telling Eric something about his past. Makes me smile. Then the other side, Rey sharing his despair & heartbreak over “the little girl who died” & how he cannot stop thinking about it. My heart breaks for him, I want to jump through the screen & hug him. Rob & Guy are perfection together throughout the entire film & this scene right here, is one of my most favourite examples. I could go on forever with my praise for Rob, Guy, David & the entire film. It is a true masterpiece. A beautiful piece of film.

Thank you of course to Maria for making these awesome videos for us 🙂
