It was really difficult to pinpoint just one scene from The Rover that I considered my favourite. This film is so special for me. From the moment Vertigo and I walked out of the media screening shell shocked (in a good way) to the premiere on Saturday night. I can’t get enough of this film. I told Guy Pearce at the Premiere that I was an emotional wreck after my first screening of this film and I wasn’t exaggerating. The performances of Rob and Guy left me in awe. Every time I’ve watched this movie I’ve seen a little bit more. Anyway, my favourite scene is where Eric on trying to purchase fuel with Australian dollars is “saved” by Rey who hands over a wad of US dollars and then proceeds to buy bullets for both of them. All of a sudden this supposed “simpleton” is able to take charge and you can see the cogs turning in Eric’s mind that maybe he’s underestimated Rey. Rey sitting in the car at the end of this scene – determined – putting the bullets in their barrel, David’s use of that haunting tune … you just know this might not end well, but what you do get is the idea that all of a sudden Eric views Rey in a completely different light. This is why it’s one of my favourite scenes.
In honour of celebrating the one year anniversary of the Premiere in Australia and the Golden Years series for the Rover … I would like to take this opportunity to share the vid magic I compiled for Maria’s birthday last year. This is mostly made up of the footage I shot from our special time on the red carpet, inside the state theatre, along with some moments that led up to the Sydney premiere (Cannes film festival, Sydney press conference) and snippets from the entire weekend. This is a time that captured our hearts and is now engraved in our memories forever.
My turn to celebrate this wonderful, incredible, mind blowing film and performance from Rob. I’m not even going to try to put into words how I feel about Rey and Rob’s portrayal….it’s a thing of incredible beauty and emotion.
anyhoo, a few edits, a couple gifs – new and a few old favourites….I hope you enjoy. 🙂
It was a year ago today, well it was a year ago today in that it was the Friday before the long weekend. I love David for saving my question, but Rob’s reaction when I said Rob Pattinson Australia - THAT is what dreams are made of. I don’t think you can ever be prepared for when you ask Rob a question and he completely stares and focuses on what you are saying to him. It’s a very surreal experience. “We got given songs?????” bwah. 2015 was one of the best years … ever and I will be dining on it for years to come. For those who helped make that happen, I don’t think we could ever thank them enough. For those interested, I’ve also posted the part where David talks about his Cannes experience over at Michôd’s Kingdom.
Rob absolutely nails this scene, just like he does every single scene in this movie.
It’s these subtle moments that packed a punch for me, where silence speaks volumes of human connection, especially when all else seems lost.  Travelling through some kind of abyss, the interaction of these characters further sealed the deal for me. It’s a love story like no other. awww 🙂 Ok ok!
I laughed but was also moved by Rey’s discomfort to sit silent. Rey’s attempt at not pushing too hard when conversing with Eric was beautiful and then he steps up the feels a few notches and brings attention to the pain from his gun wound. Poor bugger – I really wanted to take him off the screen and make it all better. Eric however did the best he could under the circumstances (bless). While this is going on, they tell us all we need to know of how dire things really are. So endearing the way they keep their cool about it.
I felt this was a pivotal moment and is slightly lost in translation when not viewed in full context of the film. Which means I need to watch the whole movie again and soon!
