Robert Pattinson The Devil All the Time Preview Screenings in Landmark Cinemas (USA)
Antonio Campos is pleased and surprised that Landmark Theatres (that are open) will be screening The Devil All the Time from this Friday 11 September. Below is an extract from Antonio’s Filmmaker Letter (see image above):
We always knew that the film was to live on Netflix and were excited for the kind of immediate global reach the film would have because of that. But we always dreamed that people would also have the chance to experience the film on a big screen. The film was shot on 35mm in a wide 2.40 aspect ratio, with every frame designed to celebrate its subject whether that be the small, lonely church in the middle of a field at twilight or an extreme close up on Reverend Teagarden’s face (played by Robert Pattinson) swishing the juices of Emma Russell’s chicken livers around in his mouth.
And it’s not only the image that benefits from the theatrical experience. It’s also the sound. The film’s sweeping score, the wonderful soundtrack made up of gospel, country and pop, and finally the raspy, vinegar-filled narration provided by the author of the novel himself, Donald Ray Pollock, played loud on the theatre’s speakers will envelope you from start to finish.
Imagine being able to appreciate Rob’s face up close in all its 35mm glory *swoons*
Robert Pattinson #TheDevilalltheTime Featured in Sight & Sound Magazine
Rob and The Devil All the Time are featured in the October 2020 issue of Sight & Sound. Below is an excerpt about Rob and his performance:
Preston Teagardin is the gluttonous and lustful preacher who arrives in Knockemstiff and instantly turns his attention towards the local teenage girls, winning their trust with his honeyed words and grooming them with the promise of private rides in his car. One of the most unsettling scenes in the film is one of its quietest, when Teagardin takes Arvin’s younger foster sister Lenora (Eliza Scanlen) on such a drive and encourages her to disrobe for him. “To show yourself, as the Lord made His first children, is to truly turn yourself to Him”, he tells her and she hesitatingly complies, her faith and trust having been weaponised against her. Pattinson fully throws himself into the role, giving Teagardin a disarming, seductive quality while refusing to soften his repellent behavior. “I’m pretty sure Rob was the first one to come in on the movie”, Campos says. “He said he wanted to play Teagardin and I said OK. He had a sense of that character I think he was drawn to how complicated Teagardin was and where he could go with the character.

Is Robert Pattinson #Tenet’s Best Hopes for an Oscar?
We have been down this road twice before – with Good Time and The Lighthouse. Without any bias, Rob’s performances in both films deserved recognition at the Academy Awards – it is after all a show that purports to acknowledge acting talent. Given the difficulties everyone has faced in 2020, the Oscars will be broadcast for the first time since 1953 later than usual – 25 April 2021. Perhaps 2021, will be “Neil” and Rob’s year for best supporting actor. Edward’s Ace seems to think so and tweeted that Rob is Tenet’s best chance for a gold statue (Erick also has him in contention with The Devil All the Time). To check out other categories in contention for Tenet head over to his website Award’s Ace.
