image host

Finally, we have the conversation between Rob and Kristien Gijbels. They talk “big opportunities happening in his career, from his starring role in The Lighthouse opposite Willem Dafoe to his role with Timothée Chalamet in The King, to his upcoming turn as Bruce Wayne in The Batman. They also dig into his history with major fandoms, attending the premiere for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, why he thinks Edward Cullen/Twilight tattoos are “punk rock”, and what kernel of an idea inspires all the roles he performs. “

Robert Pattinson talks his career with Fresh Air

image host

Terry Gross from Fresh Air spoke with Rob about The Lighthouse, Rob’s forever changing accents, preparing for The Batman and more (including hearing Honeybun). Here’s an extract from the transcript. Sit back and listen to Rob for over 30 mins.

British actor Robert Pattinson can’t tell you how many times people have said to him: “Hey man … you know what you’d be great at playing? An English prince.”

But that’s not really his thing.

“I think when you first start, if you’re tall and English and have kind of floppy hair, in England that is the box that you’re put in,” he says. “But I like movies because of Pacino, basically. I didn’t grow up watching period dramas and being like, ‘That’s what I want to do!’ ”

On something filmmaker David Cronenberg told him at Cannes that stuck with him

I’d never been to Cannes before … and I was very nervous, and I said, “How do you think it’s going to go tomorrow?” And David [said], “I’m fully expecting a significant number of walkouts.” It absolutely terrified me when I first heard it … but as soon as I saw his pleasure in thinking that there were going to be walkouts, it really made a big effect on me. …
If you’re chasing after people, getting them to like you, you’re always going to be unsatisfied. Whereas, if you team up with people who throw caution to the wind about their work and are entirely unconcerned … they’re going to make exactly the movie that they want to make.

Thanks Ani

Robert Pattinson Discusses his Career with Mark Malkin

imgbox

Rob spoke with Marc about The Lighthouse, Twilight, The Batman and his love of Little Richard *who knew*. Am just wondering if this story is like the clown car …. From Variety:

On this week’s episode of “The Big Ticket,” Variety and iHeartRadio’s movie podcast, Pattinson tells me he was 19 years old when he was fired from a theater job just days before the show was set to open.
“I left and I was very self-pitying,” Pattinson said. “I walked out and I went to this pub by the river and got absolutely trashed, and then saw that Little Richard was playing in the South Bank in London. I went to a Little Richard concert afterwards, just wept the whole time. I was like, ‘This is the most amazing, amazing concert I’ve ever seen.’”

Turns out that Pattinson is such a big fan of Little Richard that he waited by the stage door for an hour and a half to get his autograph. “He’s great,” Pattinson said. “I love Little Richard. My talent contest in school when I was probably 14, everyone was getting up to do their thing and I played ‘Lucille.’ I played the piano so hard there was just blood all over the keys afterwards. … The next kid had to go and play the piano drenched in blood.”

Next up for Pattinson is “The Batman.” “I’m glad I’ve had quite a lot of time,” he said. “I didn’t realize there were so many Batman comics. Hundreds and thousands. But I’ve been reading a lot of those, and not really just the kind of classics. I just like reading the sort of individual periodicals. It’s nice to kind of see the absolutely contemporary ones.”

Robert Pattinson talks films with Ruben V Nepales at The Inquirer

image host

Ruben Nepales recently spoke with Rob where they talked about acting, The Lighthouse, The King, Tenet and The Batman. He also shared this new still from #TheLighthouse. Below are some extracts:

Rob talking about acting

“Gradually, you learn a little bit here and there,” he said. “I love acting more with every job. When I was doing ‘Harry Potter,’ I really didn’t know if that was going to be the case. I had fallen into acting and it was really fun.

“But I didn’t think that was almost 15 years ago. And to think that I’m still so excited by every job I do. Then you are figuring out a new way to do it—I still love that. But yeah, it’s just from a gradual process of learning things. And watching a ton of movies.”

“Every job you do as an actor, you realize that you finish the job going, well, I could never do that in real life (laughs). I can’t build anything. I can’t do anything at all. All I can do is go crazy and cry (laughs).”… “The other good thing is, I’m moving around so much I don’t mind. I don’t notice if something is filthy (laughs). It’s just quite wonderful. I don’t judge other people on being messy, either. It needs to be extremely messy to the point where it’s like, there are hoarders before something needs to be done.”

Rob on his role of The Dauphin in #TheKing

“It’s funny, everyone keeps talking about my accent, but that to me sounds like a French person,” Robert quipped. “I mean, I’m not doing it as a joke at all.”

“There were a couple of lines that I thought were funny,” Robert said. “I always find it weird in movies like that, where you are playing someone speaking English with an accent, and I was thinking, why would he be speaking English? It doesn’t make any sense.

“And when I did the costume fitting, I had seen all the other costumes.
“I just saw these mega gowns that I was wearing and I was like, oh, this is amazing. It makes me move differently. Then, when David Michod let me braid my hair to go into battle (laughs), I put it in braids. As soon as anyone lets you go far with something, as Hunter S. Thompson (author and journalist) said, ‘The tendency is to push it as far as you can.’”
