According to Variety, in a recent interview with GQ Spain, Nicholas Hoult talked about losing the role of Batman to Rob. Here’s what Nicholas had to say:
“Of course,” Hoult said when asked if he would’ve liked to play Bruce Wayne/Batman. “I’m sure if you ask most people, they’ll tell you they’d want to portray that role. I think Matt Reeves’ ideas were fantastic and he made a brilliant movie. And I also think that Rob [Pattinson] did an amazing job with the character, and I loved seeing him in it. So I don’t think I would have done as good a job as him ultimately. I don’t think I could have fit as well into the world that Matt created as Rob did.”
“When they tell you for the first time that it’s not you, it’s painful, but then you have to accept it as normality,” Hoult continued. “I think that’s probably a strength of mine as an actor as well. I can accept that they didn’t cast me pretty well and when I see the chosen actor doing a great job, and I enjoy it, and it’s good, I’m like, ‘oh yeah, they made the right choice. They knew what they were doing.’ So it’s not like I’m sitting there like, ‘Oh, I’m not going to watch it now.’ It’s a good movie and Rob is brilliant in it.”
Deadline released an article today about it’s :most valuable blockbustre tournament of 2022 and gives some solid figures about what Rob’s The Batman grossed both at cinema and streaming:
“When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&A, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2022, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Warner Bros made a controversial move to shift its 2021 theatrical slate to a day-and-date strategy with HBO Max. After great ire around town, Warners returned to a theatrical release window strategy with The Batman, and moviegoers promptly flocked back to the cinema to see it. The film became the fifth-biggest domestic opening ever in March with $134 million, and a $225M global debut. Newly installed Warner Bros motion picture bosses Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy soon signed Reeves to a multi-year first-look deal; he is spinning off his Batman universe into an HBO Max series centering around Farrell’s Penguin. Despite James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC from former head Walter Hamada and planning their own Batman movie, Brave & Bold, Reeves’ Batman 2, which is currently in script stage, remains on track. The sequel is billed as an else-world part of Safran and Gunn’s DC universe and has set a theatrical release of October 3, 2025.
Wasn’t sure where to add this little promo vid, but here seemed like a good place to start. Some footage has surfaced of Rob doing promo for The Batman. Enjoy.
The Batman originally began as a spinoff for Affleck, which he might have directed. When Affleck declined, Reeves started over from scratch. He and co-writer Peter Craig chose to keep The Batman separate from Warner Bros’ recently established DC Extended Universe or any future plans, and focus on Wayne (Robert Pattinson) as a detective.
Deadline is sharing screenplays for films that will be part of the awards season – ff you were curious to read Matt Reeves’ screenplay for Rob’s The Batman you can read (and download) it here.
