I was looking to see if Studio Canal New Zealand had confirmed the 4 May 2017 release date, which they have, but to my surprise – although I know they all can change – they have listed the US release date as 17 March 2017 and the UK release date as 5 May 2017 (remember I posted here that Studio Canal UK had a tentative May 2017 release date). No date for Australia yet, but stay tuned. Â Obviously I will also update if these dates change.
UPDATED: 24 November 2016
Studio Canal UK has been showing this for a few weeks now, I just hadn’t had the chance to update.
Indiewire’s Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson talk films and festivals and what it means for those films with regard to awards and commercial prospects. They discuss The Lost City of Z at The New York Film Festival at 17.29.  They debate the kind of a director they consider James Gray to be, how they don’t really know what to expect from the film, but more importantly they confirm that the film does not have a US distributor.  Although they do mention the fact that Plan B is involved is a good sign because of the quality of films that these producers are involved with. Miles Ahead was the last film to be shown at the New York Film Festival without a distributor and they immediately found one, but the film was released the following year.  According to Anne, it will be interesting to see whether LCoZ is released in the Fall or is pushed back to Spring. Interesting listen in any event.
When you wake up and find this email from The Film Society of the Lincoln Centre in your inbox:
“The Lost City of Z, written and directed by James Gray (The Immigrant, Two Lovers), will close the 54th New York Film Festival. The film, based on journalist David Grann’s nonfiction book of the same name, will make its world premiere at the festival’s final gala screening on Saturday, October 15.
James Gray’s emotionally and visually resplendent epic tells the story of Lieutenant Colonel Percy Fawcett (a remarkable Charlie Hunnam), the British military-man-turned-explorer whose search for a lost city deep in the Amazon grows into an increasingly feverish, decades-long magnificent obsession that takes a toll on his reputation, his home life with his wife (Sienna Miller) and children, and his very existence. Gray and cinematographer Darius Khondji cast quite a spell, exquisitely pitched between rapture and dizzying terror. Also starring Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, The Lost City of Z represents a form of epic storytelling that has all but vanished from the landscape of modern cinema, and a rare level of artistry.
“James Gray is one of the finest filmmakers we have,†said New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones. “Each of his movies is so beautifully wrought, visually and emotionally, but The Lost City of Z represents something new. It’s a true epic, spanning two continents and three decades, and it’s a genuine vision of the search for sublimity.â€
“It’s truly a dream come true for me to have The Lost City of Z selected for the closing night of the New York Film Festival,†said Gray. “I couldn’t be more honored that the film’s world premiere will be in my hometown, a city I still love above all others.â€

According to IMDbPro Robert Pattinson “The Lost City of Z” is slated to be released in New Zealand on 4 May 2016.  I know @deesoonz will be thrilled to read this.  If the date changes (the Brazil date has changed t0 23 February 2017) we will keep you posted.  I found it interesting that Studio Canal’s current release schedule has it listed for first quarter release.  This is different to the schedule we posted back in April.  In any event, I’m just thrilled that release dates are being added.

You might recall we posted back in March this year that Brazil would be releasing Robert Pattinson “The Lost City of Z” in October 2016.  It now looks like that date was just a placecard. Both Guia da Semana and AdoroCinema are showing the new date of 23 February 2017. Obviously I will keep you all posted if this date changes again.
