Very disappointing that there was pretty much zero effort to promote Mickey17 in Australia (current box office as at 17 March is $2,295,523). I’ve been told it was similar in the US where their current box office is $33,212,062.

Production companies (I’m looking at you Warner Bros) wonder why movies don’t make much at the box office, (and there may be some truth with the cost of living worldwide being sky high and people are watching their spending) but I’m more inclined to believe that having such a limited cinema release before being released digitally does not give people incentive to rush to the movies. I know it was the 1970s, but Star Wars was at the cinema for 2+ years (mainly because only one cinema was screening) but also due to the fact that it was the only place you could watch it. Anyway, according to World of Reel:

“Warner Bros. has had enough. They’ve decided to ship ‘Mickey 17’ to digital on March 25 — that’s only 18 days after its theatrical debut. The film is expected to have a 60% drop and earn $7.5M in its second weekend. ‘Mickey’ is destined to cause a $100M loss for Warner Bros.Mickey 17 is being digitally released on 25 March 2025.”

Meanwhile according to Box Office Report Mickey 17 grossed an estimated $10.2M from global IMAX screens through Sunday (Domestic – $5.2M | International – $5.0M).

In other news, Mickey 17 is going great guns in South Korea where it’s the highest grossing film so far this year and according to The Numbers has grossed $17.9 million. It has also remained no. 1 leading the box office in the UK and Ireland reaching

Mickey 17 has remained no 1 in UK/Ireland, with Screen Daily reporting “‘Mickey 17’ retains UK-Ireland box office lead, reaching $5,800,000.

According to The Numbers, the current international total is $57.2 million and the current worldwide cumulative box office is $90,412,062.

Sam Woodhams reflected on working on Mickey 17 on his IG:

I had the time of my life doubling for Robert Pattinson as he brought to life multiple Mickeys. What an honour to stand opposite, and to have the task of throwing some acting at him to work with! It’s just as well my job was to watch and study Rob closely, as I was absolutely mesmerised from day one.
