The lucky Japanese will have the opportunity to receive a manga of The Lighthouse with their cinema tickets. The two scenes below are a glimpse into the quality of what will be received. I RT’d the below tweet a few days ago, but below is further information. From Natalie.mu
The synopsis manga drawn by Ito has been included in the theater pamphlets sold at the screening hall since the movie was released on July 9. Prior to the sale, two pages near the beginning were released today on June 25th. The scene where the skilled lighthouse keeper Thomas Wake and the inexperienced young man Eframe Windslow land on an isolated island in the sea for a mission, and the night when Thomas and Eframe spend their first time, until Thomas is sick. A scene was drawn that made you feel that you were sticking to the “light”. In addition, comments arrived from Ito. “Two lighthouse keeper, so to speak, are assigned to the mysterious lighthouse island, but the distorted exchanges in the hierarchical relationship, the delicate facial expressions of each other, and above all, the intense dominance of the movie screen. I wanted to recreate the light and shadow, “he said after writing the manga.
Comment rom Junji Ito
The movie “Lighthouse” was particularly impressive with its black-and-white screen contrast and gloomy atmosphere. Two lighthouse keeper, so to speak, are assigned to the mysterious island of Lighthouse, but the distorted exchanges in the hierarchical relationship, the delicate facial expressions of each other, and above all, the intense dominance of the movie screen. I wanted to reproduce the light and shadow.
