Robert Eggers Pitch for Robert Pattinson The Lighthouse was more sexually explicit than the final film
Film Independent interviewed Robert Eggers as part of their new #CoffeeTalks. Robert Eggers talks about the film, Rob and Willem and revealed that his initial pitch for The Lighthouse was far more sexually explicit than the final film ended up. Below is a quote via IndieWire:
“There wasn’t much of a pitch, really. There was convincing to do it on 35mm black-and-white negative, and there was also some full-frontal male nudity, an erection, and they were kind of like, look, it can be black and white and weird and all this stuff, but it can’t be rated NC-17.â€
Eggers, who in “The Witch†depicted a scene of a sleepwalking woman breastfeeding a crow during a midnight fit, said he did not put up a fight on the erection front. “I thought that was very fair,†he said. “If you’re going to go make ‘The Lighthouse,’ you’re making something that is hard to describe.â€
Robert Eggers also confirms that he gave Rob a lot more information for a back story to Ephraim than he gave to Willem for his Thomas. You can watch the interview over at Film Independent’s Facebook or below
