Robert Pattinson in final talks for Matt Reeves DC Comics Batman
I picked a bad day to be involved in all day meetings. Whilst I was away from the internet it seemed to explode with the news that Rob was:
- Matt Reeves new Batman;
- In final discussions to be Matt Reeves new Batman
- the worst choice for Batman according to the many who are apparently already signing petitions (we’ve been down this road before and thankfully the 75,000 who signed the petition to rid Twilight of Rob failed).
Variety started this rumour with the catchy byline of “Robert Pattinson to Play Batman for Matt Reeves (Exclusive”). However, when clicking on the article you find out that it’s not so exclusive and that:
Sources tell Variety that Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play “The Batman†in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film, which hits theaters June 25, 2021.
While sources say it’s not yet a done deal, Pattinson is the top choice and it’s expected to close shortly. Warner Bros. had no comment.
Not yet a done deal, but that didn’t stop other media outlets from turning on the Bat signal.
Variety reports, flat out that Robert Pattinson (“Twilight,†“Good Time,†and starring in Christopher Nolan’s next untitled movie) has been cast as the next Batman in writer/director Matt Reeves’ upcoming, eponymous “The Batman†film. However, many of the other competing trades are playing it a little bit safer. Deadlineand the Hollywood Reporter, are all admitting that Pattison is indeed the frontrunner for the role, but that Nicolas Hoult, having recently starred in “Tolkien,†and appearing next in, “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,†is also one of the lead contenders (and that Variety may have jumped the gun).
Matt Reeves is getting close to naming his Batman. While a report declared that Twilight Saga star Rob Pattinson had been set for The Batman, Deadline hears that the filmmaker and Warner Bros haven’t gotten to that place yet. Pattinson is on a short list but so is Nicholas Hoult, who stars in Tolkien and is about to open in the X-Men: First Class film Dark Phoenix. We’ll keep you posted as this unfolds, but several sources said that right now, the bat suit isn’t filled yet and that they like both guys, with Pattinson holding the edge.Â
While a deal has not yet been made and it is unclear if there is an offer on the table, Robert Pattinson is a top contender play Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC movie for Warner Bros.Â
It is also unclear who else is on Reeves’ short list, but other names that have been floated alongside Pattinson’s over the last month have been Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
No one has been cast as Batman for Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman,†but Robert Pattinson is among the actors on a short list for the role, two insiders with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.
A Variety headline Thursday said that Pattinson would play the role, and the accompanying story said he was “in negotiations†for the part, one of the most desired in Hollywood. Deadline subsequently reported that both Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult were on a short list for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Three insiders told TheWrap that no deal is in place with Pattinson. One insider told TheWrap that Pattinson and Hoult were both great options, but that no decision has been made and nothing is official.
So I guess we are back to square one where we have been since the first “source” said Rob was in talks with Matt Reeves and Warner Bros for Batman a month or so ago. Though I must say, the amount of positive comments I’ve seen from non-fandom tweets excited by the prospect of Rob as Batman is exhilarating. It’s great to finally not be in the minority praising this man for his extraordinary talents as an actor. I won’t post them separately but you can check some out on our Twitter feed HERE.
The Batman†is set for a June 25, 2021 release and is expected to shoot either late 2019 or early 2020. With Rob’s impending schedule with The Souvenir Part II and the Untitled Chrisopher Nolan Project – if Matt Reeves needs Rob I’m guessing it won’t film until early 2020. But then we know what a workaholic Rob can be and he does want to always do interesting films.
Stay tuned … more to come.

It’s been a long time since I last visited Gotham City, but I’ll be VERY happy to return, if this deal gets done! Fingers crossed, if Rob signs on, then it’s Gotham City all the way for me!
