“And, hello, hello what have we here.  That there looks like Robert Pattinson again … having sex (again) … in a Limo – again???  Hah, brilliant – are any other fans getting the impression that Cronenberg and Pattinson are point blank refusing to let Cosmopolis go quietly into the night with this sex in a limo short reference?”

The Playlist:

The first international trailer for the film has dropped today, providing a peek at what Cronenberg and new bromantic partner Robert Pattinson are cooking up next. Co-starring John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and Sarah Gadon, the Bruce Wagner-penned movie is vicious look at a twisted Hollywood dynasty, telling the story of the Weiss family, of whom each member seems to have their own variety of fucked up problems. And that’s just the start.

The Film Stage:

This first preview — almost more in line with a sales piece than some official glimpse — offers a closer look at some of the plot machinations, what’s on display possibly working (early as this guess is) in some harmony with A History of Violence. All else looks and feels like a late Cronenberg picture — the return of cinematographer Peter Suschitzky ought to play some part in as much — and for yours truly, who considers the aforementioned 2012 picture among his greatest, a continuation (or “evolution,” as is probably more fitting) is one of many signs which point to one of 2014′s most essential pictures. Here’s one that can’t come soon enough.

Collider:

…I’m not quite sure what to make of the footage in this promo trailer, and that’s part of what makes me so excited for this movie. The other part is that this is a new David Cronenberg movie, and I’m eager to see anything he does.

Robert Pattinson has re-teamed with his “Cosmopolis” director David Cronenberg, and you can get your first look at the result now.

Mia Wasikowska appears to be playing a variation on her character from Park Chan-wook’s “Stoker” in the international trailer for “Maps to the Stars,” a Hollywood-set thriller in which Julianne Moore plays an actress named Havana Segrand whose new personal assistant (Wasikowska’s Agatha Weiss) just so happens to be a pyromaniac recently released from a psychiatric hospital.

Did I mention that John Cusack plays Agatha’s dad and that Carrie Fisher plays herself? And that Pattinson’s character is an aspiring actor named Jerome Fontana? Yes, this is promising.

We Got This Covered:

The director’s involvement alone was enough to put this project (about the twisted members of a modern Hollywood dynasty) on my radar, but now that the first trailer has dropped, I can say for certain that people are going to be talking about Maps to the Stars all through this year.

Cronenberg’s projects are always worth a look regardless of their subject matter, but the cast attached to this film, as well as the promise of a stinging deconstruction of Hollywood culture by screenwriter Bruce Wagner, have me eagerly anticipating it.

It’s a good day when you get to see footage from one of your most anticipated films of the year, and this Maps to the Stars trailer is our first look at real footage from David Cronenberg‘s new movie. The film stars Mia Wasikoska as a young woman who bears a visible external scar, and probably some pretty serious internal damage as well. She turns up in Hollywood and scores a job as personal assistant to an actress played by Julianne Moore, but we soon learn that the girl has more on her mind than just doing her job well.

A near certainty for Cannes 2014, “Maps to the Stars,” David Cronenberg’s follow up to his divisive “Cosmopolis” once again teams the director with Robert Pattinson, this time alongside a dreamy ensemble including Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Olivia Williams and Carrie Fisher (as herself!).

Said to be a “vicious look at a twisted Hollywood dynasty” and a takedown of the industry altogether, “Maps” sure looks juicy.

Black Is White:

Looking at this trailer it reminded me a little bit of David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr., which is a fascinating film about film and the industry. I love movies set in Hollywood, there’s a built-in tone and feel that is slightly uncomfortable, but also addicting. There’s almost a nightmarish quality to it. Hollywood is supposed to be where dreams are created, but these types of movies sort of revert that and turn it on its head building a “contradicting” atmosphere that somehow just seems wrong (for lack of a better term).

It’s a low-budget film ($15 million), but it stars some pretty great actors like: Mia Wasikowska, Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Olivia Williams, Sarah Gadon and Robert Pattinson. More than anything I really like the mood of this first trailer.

I’m a big fan of that cast. Mia Wasikowska is slowly, but surely becoming one of my favorite actresses. Julianne Moore is great, obviously and it’s also good to see John Cusack in something that looks good for a change. Robert Pattinson, I mean if you still have any doubts about him as an actor: Watch Cosmopolis. He is amazing in that one.

Seriously, “Maps to the Stars” looks fantastic.
