“If I’m going to be anything more than average, if anyone’s going to remember me, then I need to go further in everything: in art, in life, in everything they think is real: morality, immorality, good, bad, I, we, have to smash that to pieces, we have to go beyond that, we have to be brave. No limit”.
I LOVE THIS SCENE
“Gentlemen… I returned from Paris with a conclusion that the entire amount of real, artistic knowledge contained within this panel of professors is not equal to one half of this. This, my fingernail. Not one half, gentlemen. And I’ve been insulting myself by letting your shruddy practices, your pathetic, outdated theories and questionable characters shit on my genius. And I hope with all my heart that you’ll realize I’m right and give up this foolishness and go back to the pigsties and the haystacks, where you might be of some real use.”
Still one of my absolute favourite performances from Rob.  Cannot wait to see what he has in store for us in the future, but I suspect it’s going to be along these lines. I’m so giddy with anticipation.
VIVA LA ROBERT!
Awwww Salvador. ADORE Rob in this role & ADORE this beautiful movie. LOVE your post so much Maria. I need to make a date with Salvador asap. Has been too long. I still remember the first time I watched Little Ashes, so clear like it was yesterday. I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. Definitely one of my most fave Rob performances to date too, so beautiful, so heartbreaking.
*happy dancing* at the thought of Rob’s new projects – CANNOT WAIT 😀
The amazing thing is, as soon as I started reading this, I could hear Rob’s Dali voice in my head, saying the words. Rob’s voice in my head ….. I just love that. Thanks Maria.
*waves to Tai* What a gorgeous co-costar, and definitely one of the luckiest females on the planet!
yes mine too Maria 😀 Profound words indeed I feel.
This, too, is my favorite Rob movie. So moving and he was so young. A glimpse of what is to come.
Ahhh Rob and LA. Warm and gushy feels all over
‘Little Ashes’ has to be one of my all-time favourite movies – not just ‘Rob movies’ but MOVIES. Ever. Salvador was a beautiful creation. Rob crafted him like a fine tapestry – lots of little details, and subtle as well as bold personality traits. Rob as Salvador was mesmerising. One thing I particularly loved was the passion he got to unleash in a way he hadn’t been able to with his previous roles – it was raw, it was breathtakingly real – made you feel the youth and rebellion surging up and out of him. I love that you pulled these out and dusted them off, Maria. It’s been a real treat getting re-acquainted with his earlier work of late. I for one appreciate more and more the breathing space we have between his film promotions and appearances. It’s a nice balance between the old and the new!
Well said @Trish and I agree with you – Rob’s Dali is one of my fave performances from Rob.
