As I have said many many times before, there are just no words in existence to describe how brilliant Rob is in this beautiful film – just none. Â No matter how many times I watch (and I have watched more times than I can ever count) he & the film leave me speechless & I am moved beyond words. Such a beautiful & heartbreaking story – oh I just love it. I thought tonight we would reminisce….
I also wanted to include this wonderful video that Maria made for us during our Golden Years series last year. For those of you who weren’t RPAU visitors back then, from September 5 2010 til November 7 2010 we celebrated all of Rob’s brilliant performances to date by spending a week with each of his characters. Â It was such an amazing time – I loved every minute & I know I speak on behalf of all of us when I say, we cannot wait to bring you the next insalments of Golden Years with the recent & upcoming Rob roles we have & will be blessed with. Over to you Rob…
Thank you Michelle, it has been way too long since I watched this brilliant movie and you have reminded me just what I am missing!! You cannot help but be moved by the characters and story. It is an amazing movie.
I loved, loved, loved the Golden Years and can’t wait to see future versions of it!!
Such a lovely work by Maria and by you Michelle! Me, just like you, adore Robert in portraying Salvador Dalì. To me, there he showed us all of what he was capable of doing as an actor. Difficult, very difficult character to portray especially at his very young age. What a treat! Thank you both ladies!
I love this film. Rob as Salvador Dalà is so emotional. Salvador is so vulnerable, fragile and his relationship with Federico is romantic and hot. Javier and Rob are amazing in scene.
Thanks for making me remember this beautiful film.
Michelle. Your beautiful post is a fitting tribute to both Rob’s Dali and LIttle Ashes as a whole.
I, like Vicky, have been reminded that too much time has gone by without Salvador and I aim to correct that as soon as possible
Martha will love this post. I predict tears.
The Golden Years were a well timed stroke of genius. I’m expecting a few more spectacular performances to be added over the next 6 months. We must have seen Georges by then surely.
Rob’s Dali only proves to us the promise of what will be Eric Packer.
I’m not biased when I say – I still cannot understand why the majority of US critics panned his performance and this movie. Yet they seem to praise other actors of his generation who wish they had as much talent as Rob does in his little finger – but I guess that’s why they all have PR machines behind them and Rob doesn’t need it.
Rob I”ve said it before and I’ll say it again your performance as Salvador:
BRAVO BRAVO SUPERB SUPERB
ps. we are in the process of working towards bringing you WFE Golden Years as soon as Pinnacle get back to me to explain why I can’t reload my software *glaresharshly*
ITA Everyone You have all said it all perfectly 🙂
OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! My absolute favorite Rob movie. This is were I thought this boy is totally amazing. When I see this movie I foget it’s Rob playing Dali, all I see is Dali. His performance was extraordinary, billiant, superb!!! I cry every single time I see this movie. Rob played this character so beautifuly, I see, and feel his pain, I can feel how tortured he is, for this forbidden love. He was Magnifique.
Thank you so much Michelle for this beautiful tribute of my all time fave Rob movie.
@Carmel you know me so well, here I am with tears streaming down my face.
Thank Michelle & Maria for you golden years. I really did enjoy them all so much. Can’t wait to see what’s next. I’m looking so foward to it.
My pleasure Martha 😀 I have been thinking about Rob as Dali this past week (yep I always turn to Rob to keep me sane) & I just had to do a post dedicated to him. There are truly no words in existence to describe how brilliant he is in this role. I feel every inch of his pain, frustration & extreme heartache – his performance is so real & so brilliant. Never ever fails to make me cry – never. Anyone who does not feel this way after watching doesn’t have a heart nor a brain. Beautiful films like this do not come along too often & should be appreciated – cherished. People who criticise Rob & the film are just idiots – plain & simple. They make me so angry. Missing out on so much by being that way – oh so very much.
Got my fingers crossed re: Pinnacle Maria. Stupid people not replying!
Michelle, beautifully said. I couldn’t agree more with you.
Thank you so much for making my Saturday so special. Mwuah!
after being (more than mildly) encouraged to obtain & watch LA by Maria last year, my respect & admiration of Rob’s acting went up a thousand more notches as I experienced what you describe Martha M – his complete immersion in the role of Dali so that you forget he’s acting. @Maria I really couldn’t believe it when you told me he was panned in this role. Maybe the subject matter was beyond the critics’ understanding. Rob as Dali is my fave. Thanks Michelle for the very pleasant reminder!
*echoes Martha’s Magnifique*
@Val wasn’t he just amazing in this role? It’s still my all time fave Rob movie so far. I love them all, but this movie, moved my heart and soul.
@Val & @Martha – I think it’s just their ignorance and refusal to believe he is more than Edward. This movie moves me every single time – more so than Tyler believe it or not – it’s just that I truly truly feel his desperation in the end of what could have been …
This fantastic movie and my other fav The haunted airman has stayed and stays with me every single time I watch them So well said Maria Rob does have more talent in his little finger than some of those so called “actors” have in their whole bodies.
@Maria that’s exactly how I feel. I totally believe that it moved you more the Tyler, because I feel the same way. I mean Tyler broke my heart and he was a tortured soul as well. But at the end, he dies happy, he finds out that no matter what his father truly loves them. He finds true love in Ally. Where as Dali lost his true love and never found it again. And that breaks my heart even more. To leave all your life without your one and only love must be the worst thing.
I read quite a few of Dali’s biographies, and they all state that Lorca was his one and only true love.
Bringing the Golden years series are some of my most fave memories of showcasing Rob’s brilliance. Thankyou for this breathtaking tribute Michelle and reminding me of the good times had and good times yet to come.
“Viva la Revolution!”
Me too Martha. The scene where Dali finds out that Lorca has been executed just rips my heart out. He lost his one true love, he was taken before he could even tell him the depth of his feelings. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Dali had to live the rest of his life without him & knowing that Lorca died without knowing his true feelings for him. So so sad – heartbreaking. That’s spot on Maria, the desperation of knowing what could have been but can now never be. How anyone’s heart can not break into a million pieces when they see that scene I will never ever ever understand.
@Michelle you’re making me cry. But so true. How he lived until his 80’s without that love or passion is beyond me. I truly believe a huge part of Dali died with Lorca. But I guess life goes on.
Thanks again Michelle for such a beautiful, touching tribute to this amazing, wonderful movie.
Goodnight girls, sweet dreams to all.
I truly believe that too Martha – so heartbreaking.
My pleasure & sweet dreams.
Wondreful job on this girl.
As for ROB… His greatest role up to now, “How to be” being my second choice. He’s BRILLIANT to say the least. I;ve said it before but HE IS THE GREATEST CAMELEON OF HIS GENERATION. A natural and I think that this is due to his all musician heart of his. The best is yet to come.
Maria I agree with you 100% in regards to not understanding critics. I really don’t know why they refuse to acknowledge Rob’s brilliance. The thing I can think of is the tall poppy syndrome. Rob is fantabulous. Like everyone else I loved Rob as Salvador Dali. I watched the Haunted Airman the other day..one scary movie but his brilliant acting made it so effective. What I love about Rob apart from everything is the fact that he keeps on challenging himself. Gosh he’s good…
P.S. I find it frustrating that Rob has everyone around him saying how great he is and yet these critics too eagerly refuse to acknowledge his talents
Michelle, Martha, Maria, it’s so nice to hear your opinions about Dali/Lorca’s relationship, and again, a demonstration of Rob’s talent that we believe he really was Dali whilst filming that gorgeous movie. Martha & Michelle I admire your passion for learning more about Dali – with the reading you’ve done (and please excuse my ignorance as LA was my intro to anything about Dali beyond his art), I wonder what you think; would anyone ever have known (even Dali) the extent of his love for Lorca, if not for his tragic young death? That seems the tragedy to me, (the way Rob portrayed him) that he might never have allowed himself to express that love (even if Lorca & Dali had both lived long but separate lives). I agree, the death/realisation scene is so so heartbreaking. Critics be damned! Just lost my uncle unexpectedly this last week so I’m more emotional than I should be but I can’t tell you how much i appreciate this discussion, thanks Michelle.
Sorry to hear that about your uncle @Val – it’s always tough but even more so when unexpected..
So so sorry to hear about your Uncle @Val. My thoughts are with you at this very tough time.
Oh Val, so sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Thanks ladies, for your concern & support, you’re all such gems & little smiles at the most-needed-moments. I think it wasn’t so bad until my mum was hospitalised on the weekend suddenly (home & healthy again now phew) and then i thought SHIT, now Mum, she can’t be this sick! Your timely LA post Michelle…we must always show our passion for and to our loved ones, as we never know what is around the next corner. On a lighter note, at least everyone knows one thing we’re all passionate about, and it might just start with the letter R…… Thanks again, fellow passion-filled ladies.
Just love these pics and video and all the comment from everyone on Rob’s performance in Little Ashes, so that you have me all fired up to watch it again. As far as I am concerned I watch the films I enjoy, regardless of ‘critics’. Thank you Rob and thanks Michelle for posting.
What an amazing video tribute Maria – pure brilliance. 🙂 Loved it and agree with you all, this was a beautiful, amazing, heart-breaking performance from Rob. Just breathtaking. *happy sigh* Thanks for the post and pics Michelle – perfect as always. 🙂
@Val – so sorry to hear your news. sending hugs.xx
Wow thanks @Jules – believe me, Maria’s posts of your gorgeous Rob-pics were like little hugs at the time. Was thanking Rob it was Friday… Seriously you girls are the best.
Hubby away all next week – it’ll be a Rob-mathon, starting with LA, I do believe 😉
