I know we posted back on 12 April 2011 that Akira was listed as “In Development’ on Rob’s IMDbPro and we know it’s not 100% accurate but Pro is used by industry (I sound like a broken record) and it was where both Bel-Ami and Cosmopolis appeared.  Akira is no longer showing, but it could be due to recent events reported by Deadline that the director, Albert Hughes, is no longer involved.  I’m  not trying to claim that Rob’s involved, although he has been provided with the script, but I’m curious to see what happens seeing as Deadline states:
“As for Akira, the intention of the studio is to keep the picture on a fast track, which means they will find a director quickly. The studio has been wrestling with the approach on the film for the past year. Last March, Warner Bros put together a short list of up-and-coming actors after getting a strong rewrite by Steve Kloves that set the film in a rebuilt New Manhattan, where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment. At the time, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy were given the script for the role of Tetsuo, and Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix were courted for Kaneda. The two leads were expected to come from that group of actors. Then, the studio had a change of heart and, given the budget, wanted to have an established box office star in the movie. That led to a flirtation with Keanu Reeves that ended recently.
Warner Bros is back to the other plan, and will likely go back to that list of actors in hopes of making the picture later this year or early next.”
Is it wrong to want to see Rob in leather and on a motorbike? Â We can live in hope … right.
Most definitely not wrong Maria,it would be heaven!! Thanks for keeping us updated.
mmm I’m sure Rob and Andrew would like the chance to work together, and I’ll be on board 100% if Rob does decide to do this. But I’m thinking the idea of a franchise at this point might not be very attractive
@Maria – Either way, it is definitely not wrong to want to see Rob in leather and on a motorbike
@Carmel its only two movies – I guess it depends on whether the script appeals to him and undoubtedly now – who the new director might be.
Yes please! If Rob decides to do it I’m behind his decision 100%.
Did someone tell me this was the adaptation of a Japanese comic?
Yes it is @Caro
Look there’s nothing saying Rob’s involved – the only thing is that he was given the script and he was asked about it early on in the WFE press junket. I’m just curious to see how it pans out seeing as everyone seems to have an opinion about it.

We sure can live in hope Maria – definitely. Would be SO excited if Rob did decide to take on the role. Am so looking forward to seeing what his next project is – CANNOT wait 😀 Thanks for the update Maria.
@lids…..yep….mmmmm, he he! Just wondering….”established box office star….” Um, hello? Your recently posted stats oughta take care of that studio’s little misunderstanding Maria! 😛
LOL @Val – as much as I love Rob – I don’t think we can really call him an “established” box office star just yet 🙂
It’s interesting that you’re talking about Akira. A friend ink fb posted a linkl to an online article the other day about the directors departure and the fast-tracking of the film regardless.
The other interesting point in this article though was the fact that as Akira is essentially a Japanese product, some actors (including the Japanese guy from star trek – never watched it so that will have to mod for now) are complaining about what they are calling a “white-washing” with respect to the cast.
Rob was mentioned as a potential cast member.
I didn’t post the link because there wasn’t a lot of substance to the article but I do think that perhaps Akira (in whatever form it eventually takes) may not be hitting our screens as quickly as the studio originally intended.
If you do want to read the 2 or 3 paragraph blurb @Maria, let me know and I will find you the link.
But I am with you ladies – rob on a bike, would be a win 🙂
Thanks @Liz but I think I’ve read it. I just posted this out of curiosity since it was listed on Rob’s page.
I should let you know that even if you included the link it would have spammed your entire comment since we don’t allow links in the comments section purely so we can control what we do and don’t want posted on the site – believe me you have no idea hat pele think we won’t notice
I should also say @Liz that this has been in the works since about 2007 – just like unbound captives and we saw what happened to that
Thats good @Maria. I’m glad I didn’t post it then! I was worried I might have been a bad RPAU lady by not doing it but my spidey senses told me not too 🙂
For now I am perfectly content with that picture of Rob in the leather jacket.
I’m sure my imagination can come up with something “dashing” for him to do in it. 😉
And besides, there’s more than enough of Mr Packer at the moment to keep my mind occupied…..
