little_ashes

For those who haven’t had the opportunity to see Little Ashes, you might not want to watch this, since it is definitely a spoiler.  I have to admit that this week’s Golden Years has been the toughest so far for me to pick a favourite scene.  If I’m being honest my real choice is from the moments the introductory credits start rolling to the beginning of the end credits.   However, since Michelle and Vertigo wouldn’t let me breach copyright by putting the entire movie on the site (you know I’m capable hahaha) I had to choose the scene that, for me, is the most powerful.  THIS choice is that for me.  I know we all love Rob’s performance as Tyler, but when I see Tyler I still see Rob, when I see Dali I see Dali – if  that makes sense.  I am heartbroken whenever I watch it – and believe me I’ve seen it plenty and although I know what’s coming, the performance, the music, did I say the performance, just leaves me speechless and blubbering (ok I don’t usually admit that in public) every single time.  Rob’s performance is spectacular – to the haters out there who only see him as the “Twilight guy” and refuse to acknowledge this performance I have two words –  “Tall Poppy Syndrome*.  Rob your performance as Toby had me hooked, but it is your performance as Dali that confirmed for me that you truly have an amazing career ahead of you.  As I have said countless times and in the words of Dali “bravo bravo superb superb” – viva la revolution!

    Bravo!!
ITA, Maria. Beautiful words. Rob is superb as Dalí. I can not wait to see Rob as Georges Duroy or Jacob but for a while Salvador is still my favourite character of him. I love Little Ashes. Viva Rob/Dalí! Viva la Revolucion!!

Rob was amazing in this movie! He played Dali to perfection. Little Ashes was a beautifully made heartbreaking story. I cry everytime I watch this movie, especially this scene. The pain and emotion on his face when he hears the news about Lorca. It feels like we are truly watching “Dali” realize that he has just lost the one true love of his life…forever.

I know what you mean Maria about having a tough time choosing which scene for LA – I was the same. SO hard – I LOVE them all. I remember the first time I saw this scene. It broke my heart & I just cried & cried. Each & every time I’ve watched since, I am exactly the same. There are just no words adequate enough to describe how brilliant Rob is in this scene. You feel every little piece of the excruciating pain Dali is feeling over the loss of Lorca. It truly does feel like we are watching Dali – Rob just completely becomes this man 100%. The people who don’t appreciate Rob’s breathtaking performance clearly don’t have the brains they were born with. Thanks so much for sharing Maria, I am so excited about spending this week with Dali.

Aww Maria, great words about Rob, I have the same sensation about Tyler/Rob but Dali, oh, Dali is Dali.
I was lucky enough to enjoy it in the theatre, and acknowledge that I was not knowing Rob, (had seen twilight but I did not like too much), I can say … that day I met one of my great loves, Mr.Pattinson . Love every minute of Little Ashes, Dali was a very complex and Rob made it close. incredible performance in one so young person.
Thanks for your work, and LOVE from Spain

This scene never fails to make me cry, the pain and the realisation on his face when he hears the news is just so real. You cannot help but feel all the emotions with him as Dali. There is just no end to my admiration for this man. ITA agree with you Maria about the haters!!! This movie became and will always be one of my faves of all time from the moment I first saw it!!! Thanks Maria absolutely brilliant scene choice.

See we can’t ALL be wrong about his performance, but yet you will get people who tell us we are blindsided by Rob. Well I’ve been watching movies for a long time and if this performance wasn’t great I wouldn’t say anything at all. And in all honesty I’ve seen “actors” win Oscars for much less – like wearing a prosthetic nose and don’t even get me started on Paltrow.

And as @Aeren points out – Rob was only 21 when he took on this role – imagine what we will be witnessing when he’s 31 *clapshandsinglee*

Gwennie has yet to do anything to impress me “cringe” And blindside by Rob?!! Maria dear those folks stand alongside anyone who calls me a “twihard” surfice to say you get an earfull and you NEVER call me that again.

IKR @Cindy – I understand Twilight put Rob in the spotlight (again – because let’s not forget he was there during Goblet of Fire – the spotlight), but that light on him was shining bright for me long before he had even signed his name on the dotted lines for those movies.

Exactly Maria & Aeren, he was only 21 years old, so so young. You have to have an immense amount of talent to portray a character as complex as Dali & the fact Rob did this so so brilliantly & at such a young age just proves how amazing he is. Not that we need any confirmation of that. OMG Maria, just imagine his performances at 31 indeed *claps with excitement at the thought* So much brilliance ahead girls, so so much 😀

@Maria @Mechelle, When Robert has 31 years and experience, not just as an actor but as an adult, will be one of the Great, has plenty of talent to do what you want in his life, and we’ll be enjoying this process and will be wonderful, I have no doubt

ITA with you Maria, we can’t all be wrong!!! I just cannot wait to see Rob finally receive the recognition he so rightly deserves!!! To be able to portray such a complex character as Dali so brilliantly speaks volumes about his talent. Oh we have so much to look forward to!!!

This is my favourite scene as well. It’s very hard to watch as I can’t help the tears. Robs performance in this scene, and pretty much the whole film, is nothing short of amazing.

*sniff sniff* This is the 2nd time today I’ve watched this potent scene and am still completely moved from head to toe.
I’m with you, fave scene is from starting to end credits, I still haven’t selected a fave scene because I don’t have ONE! Rob brings something different in each and every scene, it’s amazing the way we get to experience Dali’s development right before our eyes. It takes talent to pull that stuff off.
    Oops, I meant amazeballs!

thank you soooo much Maria for posting this….

I´m watching this video for the third time now, and every time, tears are streaming down my face…

Little Ashes is such a powerful, raw, artistic & beautiful movie.

Every person who can´t see, that Rob can play so much more than Edward Cullen, is just truly blind…

btw, does anybody know, if there´s a Little Ashes Score or Soundtrack? The music is beautiful…

@Alice87 – we have been waiting patiently for the LA soundtrack to be released. Miguel Mera told me last year that it may be available on iTunes and I actually have emailed him the other day to find out where that’s at. I’ll let you know that status as soon as I find out.
