Well it was good while it lasted – I mean thinking that Bel Ami was definitely going ahead in February – I suppose the “filming in Budapest” should have given it away considering Rob has said on a few occasions that he will be filming in Paris, but we got so carried away yesterday that we wanted it to be true.  Thanks to our elite affiliate ROBsessed for the tip

“What’s NOT true is that Kidman will star opposite Pattinson. While she did consider the project, the film’s timing didn’t work out … “Bel Ami” is “categorically not happening for her.”

I just couldn’t bring myself to delete this Barnes Theatre Co pic.  I have to also say I’m a little relieved that there’s no Nicole because I personally would have preferred Julianne Moore.

Coincidence that I’m halfway through reading Guy De Maupassant’s “Bel-Ami”, probably, but as most of you know I’m a huge believer in positive thought and so on this amazing day we have this to look forward to:

Okay so I am going to have to make some big concessions because as unAustralian as this is, I swore after sitting through Cold Mountain (only Jude made me stay to the end) I would never watch another Nicole Kidman film.  I have stuck to that – not even Hugh could get me to watch Australia – sorry Hugh.  Uggh Rob how could you do this to me, but in the words of Eddie – “I guess I’ll just have to endure it”.

Thanks to the gorgeous brandnewluv from our amazing affiliates pattinsonlife for the tip of the above and also the additional info from lion_lamb.

Pattinson, Kidman board Bel Ami for Protagonist.”

4 November, 2009 | By Geoffrey Macnab

In an intriguing star pairing, Twilight sensation Robert Pattinson is teaming with Nicole Kidman to star in Bel Ami, the film of Guy De Maupassant’s erotically charged story of ambition, power and seduction. Multi-award winning UK theatre directors Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod are directing from a screenplay by Rachel Bennette.

London-based Protagonist has taken on international sales to the film.

Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty) will produce, with Simon Fuller of 19 Entertainment acting as executive producer. The film will shoot in London and Budapest from February 2010.

Donnellan and Ormerod, whose Cheek By Jowl is widely regarded as one of the most influential theatre companies in the world, will make their feature debut with this story about a young man’s rise to the top of Parisian high society in the 1890s, via the beds of the city’s most glamorous and influential women.

In a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession, the film has, say the producers, a contemporary relevance which should resonate with audiences worldwide.

Bel Ami is a Redwave Films production in association with 19 Entertainment, Protagonist Pictures and RaiCinema. RAI has Italian rights. All other territories will be sold by Protagonist, which has already commenced pre-sales on the film.”

I was just so so excited when I saw this news, the part about Feb, Nicole Kidman not so much LOL. I am reading Bel Ami as well & am just loving it. Rob is going to be absolutely amazing as Georges Duroy, just absolutely cannot wait to see him in this role. LOL Maria, will definitely have to do an Eddie & endure it for sure. The amazing day continues 😀

I don’t think Nicole is a major major role to be honest. There’s another 2 woman that compete for his attention. Listen women – get in the queue – hahaha!

I just so very glad Bel Ami is being made. From what you have said, Maria, it sounds like a good choice for Rob.
I have my copy, but wanted to finish my current novel 1st. That seems to be taking an extraordinary long time as all my spare minutes are spent here.

I know Carmel, I’ve had my copy for awhile now too and got back into it on the weekend. The book is great, the script – well time – hopefully they may do some rewrites, although surprisingly still found captivating, but how could I not when I had Rob in my head as Georges.

I never realised until a few of my friends pointed it out, but she annoys me too.

@Vertigo – I found mine and Michelle’s at Borders, in fact it was the last two copies that they had back in August.

Agree Maria, I could not stop reading the script. Had to read it all in one go, just couldn’t take my eyes away from it. Just impossible not to be captivated for sure having Rob in our heads as Georges. Just absolutely cannot wait to see Rob in this role.

M & M, you guys have read the script? Where so you get that?

@Vertigo – amazon.uk feeds my addiction. With P&H about $25 Oz – 1 week and that little parcel of Rob on your door step. Such fun.

oh I might be out on my own here but I like Nicole! Goes back to BMX Bandits she was my hero (of course I was not born then *cough cough*).

Plus adds to my theory that me Rob is secretly “ozsessed” which must ultimately mean he will come and visit us all soon! Imagine!

But agree who cares who else is in it I will only be watching one thing ;P

@LL you make a good point! I’ll only be watching rob as well!

oh i think that;s a shame but as long as the movie is still on and Rob is the lead I don;t mind who else is in it 🙂

  • Maria

@Lise-Lou me neither. In fact I have a confession. I have watched Twilight oh I dont’ know over 30 times I’m pretty sure and the last time I watched it was the first time I noticed in the hallway scene that Bella was actually holidng the “golden onion”. Yep every other time I have just been focussed on Rob and never noticed anything else. So whoever is with him in Bel-Ami well don’t ask me because I probably wont’ know hahaha.
