Johnny Depp wants to join Robert Pattinson in Waiting for the Barbarians?
According to Screen Daily:
Johnny Depp has reached out to Colombian director Ciro Guerra to work with him, possibly on his next film, JM Coetzee adaptation Waiting For The Barbarians.
…
Depp would join Mark Rylance and Robert Pattinson in the project. The producers include Michael Fitzgerald (Three Burials). The film will be Guerra’s English-language debut and was first announced in 2016. It is being lined up to shoot in autumn this year.
Coetzee, a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature, is adapting his own novel. The story is a political thriller published in 1980, about a British magistrate in a small colonial town who begins to question his loyalty to the Empire.”
Interesting that they are lining up to shoot in Autumn this year. We posted last week that Ciro Guerra was hoping to shoot at the end of 2018 in Morocco, but Autumn works for me.
Also, not sure who Depp would portray – the only two other main characters I can recall were Colonel Joll and Warrant Officer Mandel. And Rob’s character is described as “Lieutenant” … hmm. In any event, Depp isn’t confirmed, just circling so it could all just be a storm in a teacup. Stay tuned.
Staying tuned!
