Robert Pattinson wants to disappear completely in his roles
With the upcoming release of Good Time in Germany this week, FNP chatted to Ben Safdie who had this to say about Rob:
Mr. Safdie, would you like to have a chat about Robert Bresson or Robert Pattinson?
Ben Safdie: I’d like to talk about both, for many hours. ..
Better only about the ex-vampire of the “Twilight” saga. David Cronenberg said that thanks to Star Pattinson, financing his Arthaus film would have been easier. Were you alike?
Safdie: We didn’t hire Pattinson for the money. The initiative was taken by Robert. He had seen movies of us and wrote that he would like to be part of our world. We didn’t have a project at the first meeting. We were thrilled by the incredible energy that Robert gave us. Of course, with Robert, we were able to schedule a higher budget – and we could afford the big amusement park for the showdown.
How far does Pattinson want to prove that there’s more in him than the pretty boy for teens?
Safdie: I don’t think Robert wants to prove to the world what a good actor is in him. He wants to prove himself to himself, and that is the best basis for good work. Pattinson always thinks he’s not good enough. After every scene, he thinks he can make them even better.  It is not for nothing that he takes on completely different roles.  He wants to find his place in these very different places – to disappear completely. He said that very often.
Is that why you defaced him with blond hair and shaggy beard so you can barely recognize him?
Safdie: The appearance was our idea, but Robert was thrilled with it. He didn’t want to be recognized, but he was going to disappear in this world. To try the make-up, we went to a donut shop together. The seller asked, ” are you Robert Pattinson?” Robert looked right in his eyes and said, ” No! But I hear that all the time!” it worked, and gave Robert great confidence.
