VICE spoke to Brady Corbet about The Childhood of a Leader.  “Brady discusses the film’s thunderous score composed by Scott Walker, how being a child actor impacted his directorial approach, and how winning at the Venice Film Festival transformed his life.” And right at the end “Kim” the interviewer has NO idea about who Robert’s fanbase is and laughs when she asks how does Brady think Robert’s fans will react to this film.  I think Brady shuts her up real good.  Thank you Brady.  Seriously tired of professionals assuming they know what kind of films I have as a preference. Anyway …
great interview and indeed Thank you Brady *thumbsup*
I like the guy so much. Great interview. Thx.
Hey… this is more a message to Maria than for the blog. I am a recent Robert Pattinson’s fan, having seen his Twilight movie for the first time in the last month or so (my husband liked it so much I had to see why). And then got hooked on to finding out more about this Pattinson dude. So your blog is a treasure in that respect. I have seen most of his movies now and love the Rover, Cosmopolis, and the rest of them.
This Vice interviewer made me angry and I didn’t like Brady’s response either. I left this message on the YouTube video: “Oh What was that in the end from the interviewer about Robert Pattinson and his fans? For one thing, I consider myself a cinephile and I watched Twilight recently for the first time. I liked it. I don’t owe her to tell her or anyone why I like it. But she should get off her f**king high horse and stop degrading people including the actors who made it.
Brady, I watched your movie and liked it (before seeing this interview and because of Pattinson but I didn’t need to be trained). Oh, the arrogance of you people!”
Pattinson deserves better.
Hi PM it’s very frustrating that people treat Rob’s fans as if they have no idea about cinema, the irony that we are fans of someone who is a true cinephile. It’s taking me years to just ignore them.
Thank you also for your kind words about the blog. It is definitely a labour of love 🙂
Hi Maria, just seeing your response now — I had forgotten on which page this post was. Also I have come full circle now, started from page 1 and then started from the last page, rummaging through the posts, all of it believe it or not. But mostly scrolling through them. This has been the most fun activity in Covid times.
I have since then deleted that comment above from YouTube. For one thing it is not my battle to fight these people and there are a lot of them on the extreme left in America. They think they are the superior human race or something. I like Claire Denis’s comments on Twilight. There is a YouTube video out there. My own mirrors that and I think that the movie is not cartoonish because of Pattinson. If it were not for him, we would have another Lautner playing the Edward character and it would not have had the same punch. Kristen was OK but some of her lines were guffaw-worthy, like when she has to remind the viewers that they are vampires — ‘you all need your strength, you have to hunt’, LOL, when the vampires are wanting to behave like sophisticated rich humans. I think the cult of women and girls was for ‘Edward’ and not Rob and Rob was very astute to recognize that split. The ones left after the melee are the people that looked at what Rob did with the clusterfuck (and before) and understood what else he was capable of. I saw a tweet in the last couple of days, the person tweeting that he was on a Pattinson movie binge and he was surprised with himself that had not done that for any other actor. Pattinson has that rare quality to draw viewers in, that is his je nes sais quoi.
Thank you for this blog. It is a labor of love, indeed.
Hi PM I totally agree with you about the “the cult of women and girls was for “Edward” and not Rob. At the peak of Twilight this site was getting 10,000 hits a day and if it were just Rob then we’d still be getting hits in that vicnity, but we’re not. And a lot have moved on even though they all said they were in it for Rob. I’ve seen comments from some fans who were annoyed he took the Batman role and thought he was a sell out but I’m not sure how you can come to that conclusion before even seeing his performance. That teaser trailer is the most exciting teaser I think I’ve ever seen from Rob and I just can’t wait to see that final product. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t pick up completely new fans from that film. Rob’s a phenomenal actor and it’s great that people are finally acknowledging it.
PS. I can’t believe you’ve gone through each page. There are a lot I have to fix and haven’t had a chance to do so as a lot of our photos were in photobucket and that account has now been deleted. At least most are in our gallery!
I don’t know much about ‘Batman’ culture but I am sure Rob will bring in his own magic to it. I am not sure why he is a sell out for some people because, he can influence the Studios to churn out better products with better actors and better directors and gives him the added commercial viability. As a tweet pointed out, with this new venture he can perhaps bring 4-5 new Indie movies to fruition. I am definitely looking forward to seeing him as Bond in the next couple of years and I have not liked any of the newer Bonds because they lack the magnetism and screen presence of olds like Connery, (my best Connery is the one in Marnie). On the other hand, Rob has that magnificent screen presence, in every movie he has done, he steals the show.
{yes, with the blog, a lot of the images/videos don’t load or very slow and I skipped, especially between 2012 and more recently, but I liked reading all the print interviews. The chronology you have built here day to day, month to month, and year to year of what was happening is incredible. You should write a book. I am a researcher by trade and day job and naturally curious about things until I am satisfied and with covid, we are not doing any of the other activities that would have prevented me from indulging in this activity}
