Came across this introspective article discussing 2011’s bombardment of sequels, prequels, 3-D equals and what we have to look forward to in 2012. While the focal point is on some of the bigger name releases such as The Hobbit, The Hunger Games, and The Amazing Spiderman, I loved the ‘hidden gem’ compliment paid to ‘Cosmopolis’ in the closing paragraph:

The ongoing argument that the recent bombardment of remakes, prequels, and reboots should be brought to an end now seems futile. We as an audience should know that film appeals both to artistic and financial sensibilities. It’s an ever-evolving medium and it’s up to us as a worldwide audience to decide exactly what is profitable and while it’s these sorts of films we speak of that get the limelight, there are hidden gems to be found throughout the year. Keep an eye out for these: David Cronenberg’s ‘Cosmopolis’, Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘The Master’, Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Gravity’,and the yet untitled Terrence Malick’s project.
