TWIRLS through the week in review.  THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER:  Not only did we see that Studio LEquipe is mixing sound – the film will have its world premiere at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.  Bloody fantastic.  Couldn’t be happier for all involved.  What a fabulous time for Brady Corbet especially seeing comments about the buzz surrounding the film.  Protagonist finished off the week by updating their site and marking the film “Completed”.  Meanwhile, with all their financial unrest, Greece is on board via Weirdwave to distribute the film in 2015/2016.  Life is good.  Speaking of LIFE:  My head is spinning with the changing release dates.  Turkey looks like they’re getting the movie in October now rather than September.  Austria is getting it in September rather than October.  Rest assured the Australian date hasn’t changed.  The Middle East is on board for releasing the film too.  And from some of the reviews that came out of GIFFMX – I think we’re in for a fabulous film.  I updated the review post for those that haven’t had a chance to peruse.  A common theme seems to be that if you are a lover of film, music and photography, then LIFE is a “must see” film.  I’m a lover of Rob so it was a no brainer *oops*.  Continuing on it’s Film Festival circuit, LIFE will premiere in Switzerland (Geneva) in November at the 21st International Film Festival where Anton Corbijn will be presented with the “Film & Beyond Award†in recognition of his multidisciplinary career path in (audiovisual) arts. Looking forward to seeing some more positive reviews.   How interesting was the interview Rob gave in Lo Donna, and before I go any further I have to thank Roberta again for translating the article so quickly for us.  Although some of Rob’s responses were familiar, it was great to hear his thoughts on  his career.  I don’t think he meant any ill by saying it will be his fault if in 10 years time he’s remembered for Twilight.  I believe he means if that’s the only film people can relate to him, then he’s current career path of choosing films to introduce himself to a new audience and to challenge himself will have failed, and then he only has himself to blame for not showing the world he’s more than a one trick pony.  Anyway, that’s what I took from the comment.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Seems to be playing the release date game as well.  Switzerland what are you doing?  Spain on the other hand has confirmed who their distributor, but a release date is yet to be confirmed.  Again, the Middle East is on board with UAE and Qatar releasing the film in October.  The best thing about all these distributors and release dates is that we get new promo photos like that gorgeous UHQ BTS shot.  Holy moly I love seeing Rob at work. LOST CITY OF Z: I was going to write “stop teasing us and just get on set already”, but then on Saturday night @imbabysky tweeted us the Facebook post that filming is scheduled to start in Belfast on Tuesday.  I’m backing away slowly, I don’t want to jinx anything *whispersitbetterhappenorIwillcutabitch*.  In other news, how about those gorgeous shots that came out of Cannes *fansself*, the new set photo from The Rover thanks to Dakkansha.  But nothing compares to being spoilt like that Danielle Levitt photoshoot outtake.  Why oh why do they contain these pics from us.  It’s criminal.  THINGS I TWEETED ABOUT:  IF.com posted a fascinating article about the frustrations faced by Aussie indie distributors in having to wait for UK or US releases and what problems they face.  Cine Premiere (Mexico) mentions that LIFE will be released in either late 2015 or early 2016.  Before I go, I watched James Toback’s “Seduced and Abandoned” last night.  You might remember that Rob went to the premiere back in 2013.  What a fascinating doco.  If you get a chance to watch it, you should.  Gives great insight into what it takes to try and get financing for a film.  In case you are unfamiliar with the film, it documents Toback and Alec Baldwin going to Cannes in 2012 to speak to financiers, studios, investors to try and get financing for a movie they are trying to sell without a script, but just with the names of Baldwin and Neve Campbell.  Ryan Gosling, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger and Berenice Bejo are interviewed.  I hadn’t seen Berenice since she won her Oscar, she’s so lovely and interesting to hear her thoughts on what it’s like to work in the industry post her Oscar win.  Anyway I could go on forever, but if you get a chance watch it.  Will give you an idea of how hard it really is in this day to make a film – even Scorcese and Coppola say so.  Until next week when hopefully we might get a glimpse of Rob and Charlie Hunnam on set … or that LIFE trailer!

How delightful was Rob the interviewer – cheeky guy.  Rob’s always full of surprises.  Speaking of surprises, lovely to see those Evening Standard photoshoot pics in that glorious size.  Have honestly been waiting almost 6 years for that.  We kicked off the week with those beautiful portraits from 2010 and the New York “Remember Me” promo and the Cannes portraits.  Funnily enough in my travels last week I bookmarked the fact that I found the Remember Me Bluray had just been released in Carmel’s favourite part of the world “Austria“.  Not sure if it’s first time or just that it’s back in stock but it was included in “New Releases”.  And we ended the week with the lovely Le Grand Journal pics from 2014.  In movie news:  MAPS TO THE STARS:  I reminded you all that Norway was releasing Maps to the Stars on DVD.  LIFE:  I’ve added the Thailand release date again as I posted it a few hours after I finalised last week’s review.  So I’m just popping it in this one in case you missed it.  Turkey gave us a new poster and Pinema added it to their website and confirmed that 25 September is most definitely the release date.  eOne Benelux also now has a dedicated “Life” page.  And Mexico got their premiere with Anton Corbijn yesterday.  I retweeted lots of tweets from @giffmx.  We had a few interviews where Anton talked Rob and I get where he’s coming from in his choice of Rob.  I’ll add to that post as more come through.  I also started the international review roundup given that some of the Mexican reviews trickled through. Again, I’ll update that post as and when they come through.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT:  Poland and Indonesia now have release dates, but the US seems to have pushed back it’s release to later this year or early 2016.  And thanks to @QueenFilmFan who noticed that Switzerland no longer has a release date and that Ascot Elite (Distributor) has also removed QotD from their website.  We now know who the distributor for Greece is which I guess is a good sign - it’s the same one as for LIFE, but still no release date for either.  Also the Russian distributor, Top Film, now has a dedicated page for the film on their website.  And whilst I’m talking QotD and LIFE - @deesoonz tweeted me a link to an article about Transmission films partnering with Sony who will distribute Transmission’s titles both physical & digital formats for home ent market Aus/NZ from 1 October 2015.  So that’s great for us Aussies/Kiwis.  THE ROVER:  Loads of tweets coming out of Japan for the release on Saturday.  You can see them all at @dakkansha but I did tweet a link to all theatres screening the film.  It looks like most are loving the film – no surprise really.  LOST CITY OF Z:  Now has a distributor in Brazil for whenever it gets released in 2016 *fingers crossed*.  Hoping we hear some news re filming for LCoZ next week.  August is just around the corner.  Before I go I’d like to thank you all for the birthday wishes – I felt very spoilt.  Thanks Michelle, Vertigo, Suze and Jules for your spectacular birthday wishes which render me speechless – a hard task let me tell you.  Again, thanks everyone.  Just remembered that Venice Film Festival is announcing its lineup on Wednsday – fingers crossed that we see The Childhood of a Leader on the list.  Until next week … surely we should get a LIFE trailer … surely

*CARTWHEELS THROUGH RPAU*  How good is it to see “Australia” listed amongst the release dates for LIFE.  Carmel I didn’t need to send the bat signal I saw you were here bright and early on Saturday morning.  Transmission have most definitely confirmed to me that that is the release date. Sit tight and I’ll will hopefully let you all know when and where it’s going to be screened (including our Kiwis followers). Also I’m told no premiere is planned (for Sydney) when I asked.  LIFE is also screening at the Guanajuato Film Festival in Mexico next week not once but twice. Lucky Mexicans. In other film news:  THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER is on track with
Studio L’Equipe tweeting that they have started the colour grading on the film.  MAPS TO THE STARS:  You might be wondering why Venezuela is in the release section again.  It’s because the distributor’s website has further confirmation that it will be released on 31 July 2015.  I’m just being thorough.  Also love that it’s being released on VOD in The Netherlands and finally for those who like to collect DVDs|Blurays you can add Hong Kong to your collection.  I know there are some of you out there that do that.  THE ROVER:  Dakkhansa is in full The Rover mode with posting articles and interviews etc.  I
tweeted a link to one of my fave Rob’s interviews that now has Japanese subtitles “if you just work with auteurs you will never be disappointed”.  Yes Rob we know and we’re not.  Less than a week now for Japan to see the pure brilliance of the film.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT:  Germany is really behind this film unsurprisingly of course but it seems the economic crisis in Greece will play a part on whether Greeks get to see QotD in 2015.  Japan doesn’t look like it will be seeing it this year either. PRODUCTION UPDATES for Lost City of Z and Good Time.  I’ll take anything I can with those two films to be honest.  THINGS I TWEETED ABOUT: Sometimes I tweet articles that mention Rob or things I can’t justify doing a post about.  Like when Â
Slash Film thought that Rob should be considered for the role of Han Solo. Â
Ethan Anderton said “Undoubtedly plenty are going to pitch a fit about this selection, but I stand by the fact that Robert Pattinson is an extremely talented actor, and the sooner we all forget about
The Twilight Saga, the better we’ll all be.”  I have a new crush and his name is Ethan.  I also tweeted a link to an
Indiewire article that was a fascinating read about 4 things to influence a distributor’s decision to buy a film.  Looks like we fall into a “core group” of an established fanbase that translates to ticket sales.  Like we didn’t know that!  And how about the intriguing news to come out this week that Rob interviewed Jamie Bell for Interview Magazine.  Now we just have to sit and wait and see if it’s actually Rob and not someone else who has the same name.  Although I feel that @InterviewMag would have tweeted someone by now to say it’s not THE Robert Pattinson. Cannot wait to see how Rob handled this if it is in fact him.  We should know in the next week or so.. Looking forward to seeing what next week brings. Seems to be all systems go so until then …

If I said I had a gut feeling that we would be getting new film news this week you would probably think I was just making it up, but I swear it’s like a sixth sense when it comes to Rob and his projects. How great was it waking up on Friday to news that Rob would be starring in the Safdie brothers new film “Good Time”.  I know some assumed Rob was at the Heaven Knows What premiere as a friendly gesture to one of the producers of The Trap – Charles-Marie Anthonioz – who is also an executive producer on the Safdie Bros film. Anyway whatever the reason Rob was there seems to have paid off for us. And speaking of the Safdie Bros – for Melburnians – MIFF is doing the first Australian retrospective of the Safdie Bros films and Josh and Benny will be attending as special guests. On 3 August 2015, they will be taking part of “Talking Pictures A Conversation with Josh and Benny“. If only I lived in Melbourne … if only.  The thought is that “Good Time” will be shot once Rob completes Lost City of Z.  I noticed on 11 July 2015 that Sierra Affinity has LCoZ listed as in “pre production” on their website – so fingers crossed we hear of Rob disappearing off into the jungle soon.  Now onto other film news. LIFE:  Variety came to the party and confirmed that the film will in fact be part of the Sitges Film Festival. I updated the post if you’re wondering why it’s appearing in this week’s wrap up.  It’s also screening in July at the Freiburger Film Festival in Germany and Anton Corbijn will be attending the premiere in Belgium.  That’s going to be an interesting event for sure.  Always love hearing the directors take on working on the film. Then we were treated to some wonderful new stills of Rob as Dennis Stock and some BTS shots of Rob with Anton Corbijn.  I’m in love with the still of Rob sitting on the bed. Also, the French distributor posted an alternate theatrical poster on their website and it interestingly now contains the logo for the Deauville American Film Festival.  It really makes me think that there may be a French premiere on 9 September 2015 at the Festival since it runs from 5 to 14 September 2015.  I guess we shall know by the end of this month. QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Now has release dates in Austria and Egypt.  Sorry Carmel I will make sure I send you a text when it is in fact the actual “Australian” release date.  THE TRAP: Still unsure of Rob’s involvement with this film, but nevertheless, Focus Features is definitely on board to distribute theatrically in the US. Now it’s just a waiting game.  MAPS TO THE STARS:  Venezuela pushed its release date back to the end of July.  Ecuador, although I haven’t posted anything about it recently, still has the film listed in “coming soon” at Cineplex – don’t worry I check it regularly.  One of the things I have found checking overseas theatre and film websites is how many of Rob’s films don’t actually make it to cinemas overseas.  I feel really lucky that Australia seems to get on board, at least in some major capital cities, in screening all of Rob’s films.  Other bits and pieces, Michelle treated us to a montage of Mr Majestic.  Cannot believe that was 6 years ago. The Japanese website for The Rover was expanded with a few more features.  I love the Japanese’s enthusiasm for promoting films.  They always seem to create a separate website for all of Rob’s films.  Can’t wait to see what next week unfolds – I predict a trailer for LIFE. Just putting it out there. And before I go, on a non Rob issue, I just finished reading the draft of Nick Osborne’s final book in the trilogy “Release”. For those who have been patiently waiting for the end of this story, the wait is almost over – it should be released at the end of this month. I’ll keep you posted. Until then …

What a week I almost didn’t know where to start. Almost … lots of film news this week.  Let’s start off with Queen of the Desert. I thought getting the HD trailer with no subtitles was a treat at the beginning of the week until I woke up on Friday morning to a brand new official website, new trailer and a few more glorious stills of Rob as T E Lawrence.  See patience does pay off.  Kazakhstan and Brazil are also added to the list of countries with a release date or at least potential release date. LIFE gave us a few treats this week too. Although still no hint of a trailer, surely it must be just around the corner. Release dates are a plenty with Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden and Spain now added to the list. Spain’s also waving the pom poms since it’s including the film as part of the program for the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival (Barcelona) in October. Tickets go on sale on 17 July (from memory) and I’ll be letting you know when tje link is available. Canadians I also noticed that Cineplex has both Queen of the Desert and LIFE listed on their website, but not under coming soon or no release date as yet. Still it’s there so it must mean something … right?  Italy gave us a glimpse of their poster for the film.  ARPSelection (the French distributor) speculated that the film “could be screened in September” as part of the Deauville Festival. This is a film festival held in Paris that screens only American films. The problem is – isn’t LIFE an Australian/UK/German production? They also posted one of the stills from last week on their Facebook page.  The Childhood of a Leader: Ioncinema seems to be obsessed with talking about The Childhood of a Leader being at Cannes, Venice or TIFF. This week it mentioned again in an article “And considering the pedigree of the cast and the actor’s numerous films that have played the fest, Brady Corbet’s directorial debut The Childhood of a Leader, starring Berenice Bejo and Robert Pattinson, could be a highly touted title (unless we see it hit Venice this fall or Berlin this winter).“ Thanks to Sally for the heads up for that article. Will be interesting to see where it lands. Also thanks to Sally for the HQ scans of the Total Film interview which was an  interesting read and covered quite a few of Rob’s films. What stuck out for most though was that there’s a new script for Lost City of Z and Rob’s non-committal comment about The Trap lol.   Speaking of Lost City of Z, the preproduction date was updated on IMDbPro to 28 June 2015.  That means things are most definitely happening. For those curious, preproduction means it’s prepping for principal photography which is supposedly due to start on 8 August 2015.  And if you thought the film news wasn’t enough, we had gems uncovered from some of Rob’s past films. David Gilligan, stills photographer on How To Be, gave us a huge treat this week with a behind the scenes video giving us glimpses of photos we had not seen before.  I love that film especially since the Aussie screening was the catalyst of me now co-owning this website.  Behind the scenes shots were also uncovered from The Summer House.  Much thanks to @robjectify for her stealthy unearthing of those beauties.  I know how much time can be spent down rabbit holes without uncovering any new footage, pics or info on Rob.  Also the other day when I said I hadn’t seen the old modelling shot of Rob, blame bad memory because I came across this version that I had completely forgotten about.  The Academy treated us to a throwback Tuesday (although it was Monday for them) of Rob in the audience in 2009, the timing perfect for us in the future. What a cutie.  And we ended off the week with some glorious HQs from Breaking Dawn 1 promo that we hadn’t seen before.  Much thanks goes to Posh for those. Can’t wait to see what next week brings *whipsersLIFEtrailerpleaseandthankyou*. Until then …

Wow what a whirlwind of emotions this week. Lots to talk about or maybe not ha!  I’ll get the elephant in the room out of the way quicksmart.  Rob no longer involved with Brimstone was something we weren’t expecting, but at the end of the day it is what it is and realistically we have had so many examples over the past 8 months of how movie making can turn on a dime.  So instead of dwelling on the negative, we’re going to look forward to the positives:  Queen of the Desert, LIFE and The Childhood of a Leader.  There will undoubtedly be promo tours for these films and promo Rob is always something to look forward to.  So back to normal programming - we had new release dates for Queen of the Desert, and it’s great to see preview screenings being held in August in both Germany and Greece.  The release dates are starting to come through a little more regularly now.  Although, I have to feel for the Italians since according to Ciak there is no planned release of the film for 2015 in Italy *insertsadface*. Doesn’t mean Italy won’t have a screening, look at Venezuela they’re only just seeing Maps to the Stars in their theatres. Better late than never I say.  Tuesday kicked off with us finally getting some incredibly great BTS and UHQ stills of Rob in LIFE. I love love love the one of Rob in the darkroom. I also love how sweet the one is where he’s showing his “son” the camera. Rob has such great rapport with child actors. For those who don’t have twitter, I tweeted an article that stated “Life premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and will likely be at TIFF this September.”  Fingers and toes crossed.  I’m still grumbling that neither Life nor QotD  were included at the Sydney Film Festival (nor at NZIFF). Hope they give us a premiere instead *praying*.   Good to see some new theatrical posters starting to come through too – love the French take on it.  How about waking up on Saturday morning to the sweet sound of Rob’s voice and the raw audio from Breaking Dawn.  Nice little insight into how incredibly dull and tedious ADR really is – unless of course you’re on the other end of Rob’s voice then it’s like listening to angels sing.  LOL okay that’s a little cliched and over the top but you get the gist.  We took time out this week to look back and share some fabulous photos of Rob over the years.  We were also treated to some fabulous fabulous portraits from the LA promo for The Rover, the BTS pic  of Rob on the QotD set, that old modelling shot of Rob and the Berlin pics of Rob and David C.  They really shouldn’t keep such beauties hidden.  On that note – see you next week.  Looking forward to see what that will bring …
