New Yorkers will have another chance to see Robert Pattinson in “The Childhood of a Leader” when it screens as part of BAMCinemaFest (Brooklyn Academy of Music).  No dates have been confirmed for the screening nor who will attend, but member ticket sales are available from 19 May 2016 and general public from 26 May 2016.  If you want membership click here.  The other piece of great news we gleaned from this announcement is that The Childhood of a Leader has picked up a US distributor – Sundance Selects (sister company to IFC Films). *Update* Apparently this is the North American premiere (but premiere to me means it’s the first showing and I still remember posting about the special screening at Burns Film Centre *shrugs*)

Last week I uncovered that Brady Corbet was the American Guest of Honour at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival being held between 7 & 14 June 2016 and wondered whether there would be some kind of screening of Robert Pattinson “The Childhood of a Leader”.  Well it now looks like the film will have a screening as part of Brady Corbet’s Carte Blanche. If you click on Fout is in Death (Claire Denis – nice touch) and Sous Le Soleil De Satan (Maurice Pialat) it states “Session presented by Brady Corbet”, but interestingly nothing is mentioned yet on TCOAL’s dedicated page.  Still it has a dedicated page so that must mean something and if you look at 2015, when Josh & Benny Safdie were Guests of Honour, their Carte Blanche films all had screenings. Stay tuned as the schedule is yet to be released – so I will most definitely keep you posted.

Wow I’ve been patiently waiting for some new stills of Robert from The Childhood of a Leader. This is teeny tiny in my world, but I’ll take it.

There’s also some new ones not including Rob that I thought I’d share. Love the way this film has been shot.

No Robert mention, but here’s an extract from IFFR where Liam Cunningham talks The Childhood of a Leader, Brady Corbet and his excitement on hearing that Codarts Orchestra would do a live accompaniment to the film:

The Childhood of a Leader is certainly different. It’s a film for the connoisseur. It expects more of the audience. You really can’t tell that it’s Brady Corbet’s directorial debut. He had so much confidence, he directed the film as if it were his fiftieth. Brady may be a 26-year-old New Yorker, but his taste is European. He has a huge passion for European cinema. As an actor, he’s also worked with the great masters, like Michael Haneke and Lars von Trier.”

The Childhood of a Leader is indeed far from conventional.

“It’s a work of art that asks questions. Brady described the film as a cross between a drama about the Treaty of Versailles and a horror film. That may seem a bizarre combination, but they actually go very well together. It’s an artistic project, in the right sense of the word. You’ve never seen a film like this before. And what a stroke of genius to screen it in Rotterdam with a live orchestra. When I heard that, straight away I broke out in a huge grin. A fantastic idea, because Scott Walker created an amazing score. The result is a film that really excites the senses. The soundtrack usually has a supporting role in a film, but in The Childhood of a Leader the music and images sometimes battle one another.”

Brilliant news to wake up to.  The 35th Istanbul Film Festival presented its awards last night, 15 April 2016, and Robert Pattinson “The Childhood of a Leader” won the International Golden Tulip Competition Special Jury Prize.  Those awards must be starting to collect dust on Brady’s shelf.
