I can confirm that at around 7.30 pm tonight the screencap below was exactly how the cast looked for The Trap. That’s taken from my history – thank GOD I went onto the page tonight. And now I was going to look for something else and noticed no more The Trap on Rob’s page.
At 7.3o pm – Rob was still in the cast as rumoured
Â
At approx 9.30 pm – no The Trap on Rob’s projects in development
Â
And here’s what the cast looks like for the film on The Trap film page – no more (rumoured) against Pacino or Franco
Â
So whether Rob’s still negotiating or whether he’s decided to drop out – am sure we shall hear. Let’s see what unfolds in the next 24 hours. I am going to cry if I have to let go of leather clad Jimmy AND oozie surfing Max in the last 6 months. Why Rob WHYYYYYYY! lol
PS. If this has changed in the morning I’ll update don’t you worry. But I’m beginning to think it wasn’t coincidental that the Screendaily article about MadRiver and Marc Butan said ”
“The new venture is also edging closer to co-finance and co-produce Harmony Korine’s The Trap with Dcm and Le Grisbi’s John Lesher.
Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco and Al Pacino will start work in early 2016 on the revenge tale set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene …”

I see a mention of Lost City of Z too. I’m ignoring that Rob isn’t mentioned in the line up for The Trap.
The article can also be seen online at Screen Daily.
Update (18/5/2015): Â For those nervous that Rob’s name was omitted from the article above:

I know we already were aware of Rob’s films being sold at Cannes, but that doesn’t stop me from being happy they are included in the Screen International Sellers Guide. I can’t handle no real Rob at Cannes, so I’m doing the best I can do #damnit. I also didn’t find any mention of The Lost City of Z, but it’s been at Cannes previously so … if I overlooked I’ll remedy this post.

So Rob may not be attending Cannes, as far as we know, but some of his films are being marketed there this year. As I mentioned the other day, The Childhood of a Leader has “Promo Screening Pending” as it’s Cannes status on Cinando. What this means is that they are proposing to screen a promotional reel (not entire film obviously) to buyers at the market. I’m guessing since it still says “pending” they are working hard to finish whatever it is they want to show. I’ll keep you posted if and when it changes. Nothing is listed under the “Markets” tab of Protagonist yet, although they have a Cannes office listed on their Cinando page

Update:Â 23/04/2015
Remember I said above that Protagonist still didn’t have anything listed under “Markets” tab for Cannes. Well that’s changed now. I hope we get news of distributors signing up. Look at that “Protagonist Promo Reel – Exclusive Footage”.

Rob’s celebrated his birthday in Australia and Cannes, I guess Miami is as good a place too. Ticking off those boxes Rob … Of course he might be too busy to celebrate seeing that he’s also supposed to be on set for Brimstone. Although I’m sure Guy will help celebrate with a drink or two.
Thanks @CandeyQ

IMDbPro has changed the release date for The Trap to 2017. So it doesn’t look like the above will happen in May. Will keep you posted, but I wouldn’t get too concerned – there’s a lot of ducks to line up for this film. Doesn’t mean it won’t film this year, but it’s probably not going to happen until much later. Still it’s IMDbPro and things can change on that just as quickly.
PS. Sorry Carmel in advance I know how much you love this Franco pic

This post will update with distributors and eventually release dates as per IMDbPro, Cinando or as otherwise stated. Of course some information may change and this post will update as and when more information comes to light. I’ll post a link on our Films page for The Trap for ease if you want to bookmark.
