From Harmony Korine’s latest interview with W Magazine, we get a little bit more information about The Trap:
“What emerged from that retreat is The Trap, a forthcoming revenge drama about a yacht-robbing crew in Miami that Korine describes as “ultra-violent and very impressionistic.†The film, he says, will star Franco, Benicio Del Toro, Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson, and Idris Elba, and is meant to feel “like a drug experience.†After a rare pause, he explains that he is always trying to visually “assault†the viewer—whether in his films or art, or in his constantly evolving new obsessions that have yet to find a particular medium. “If I try something and it doesn’t work out, what’s the big deal?†he asks rhetorically. “I mean, I’ve never seen an opera, but I still feel like I could make one. I don’t think there’s a limit to what you can do.â€
Harmony I’m very grateful for your attitude to “no limits” much like Dali -Â I say bring it on.
I missed this news coming out from Cannes in May. Â According to a news release on DCM’s website:
“At the Cannes Film Market DCM has acquired the distribution rights for The Trap, the latest string of cult director Harmony Korine, for the entire German-speaking countries. THE TRAP is a production of DCM and Grisbi Productions. DCM brings the film also as a rental in 2017, the German and Swiss theaters.”
Lucky Germans.

Harmony Korine Says ‘The Trap’ With Robert Pattinson Is A “Super Propulsive, Pretty Highly Violent Revenge Movieâ€
What fabulous news to wake up to. Â According to The Filmstage:
“In the conversation, Korine discussed the initial images that led to Spring Breakers, how he helped formulate James Franco‘s character, his current distaste for New York City (as well as his formative years there at NYU), and how Kids came about and Larry Clark discovering him. He also touched on his next feature The Trap, which we haven’t heard an update on since early this year. He confirmed the casting of Benicio Del Toro and Idris Elba (who are the two leads) as well as Robert Pattinson and Al Pacino, with production kicking off in January.
Set in the world of Miami music, it follows Del Toro’s character who gets locked up for a robbery involving Elba’s character and nearly 15 years later is back for revenge. Korine described it as “a complete sensory bombardment,†adding “the way I feel about storytelling now is that it’s more like liquid. It has to do more with energy.†He confirms there’s still a story to be told, saying it’s a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.â€
“For those interested about his career and thoughts on filmmaking, he recently sat down with Marc Maron for a 1.5-hour discussion.”
As we patiently wait for confirmation that we will still see Rob as uzi wielding surfer Max, IMDbPro has updated to list Focus Features as the US distributor.  It was alluded to in most of the articles that Focus Features was on board, but it’s only just been added
Â
There’s a new cast member as well, although he was added last month, I didn’t post about it since I’ve been stealthily watching to see if a replacement “Max” turns up. Â The waiting continues …
Whilst we still sit on the fence whether Rob is involved or not, The Trap managed to find a distributor for Canada (all media) – VVS Films according to IMDb.
Cliff Martinez who looks like he may be doing the score for the film, spoke to HitFix and said:
““The Knick: Bagpipe years.†Are you talking to Harmony [Korine] at all about his next film “The Trip?â€
Yeah I have. He sent me the script. I don’t know what the status of it is. He sent me some music from some obscure electronic artist. So we kind of exchanged a few ideas and exchanged about the script. I don’t know where that project is at. So I hope to be working on it. He’s kind of dropped out of sight.”
Looks like nobody other than Harmony really knows what’s going on.
