Well this is interesting.

The twitter’s locked so who knows if it is legit or not, but I do see that DCM still has The Trap Listed on their Announced Titles:
Anyway will be interesting to see what transpires. Â Stay tuned.

Steven T Hanley of Vice recently spoke to Harmony Korine about his new art exhibition and mentioned his upcoming film The Trap.  This is what Harmony had to say:
Your upcoming movie, The Trap, is about a boat-robbing crew in Miami, and you’ve spoken before about this idea for it to be ultra-violent and akin to a drug experience.
I’m always trying to get to a point where the movie-making is more inexplicable—an energy, rather than anything steeped in narrative. I was always trying to do something that was closer to a drug experience, or a hallucinatory experience, or something more like a feeling. There’s a language that I’ve been trying to develop for a while, so that was what The Trap was going to be a continuation of. But I don’t know if I’m going to make that movie. I was supposed to shoot in May, but I lose interest. It’s not that I’m not making it. I’m just almost done with another script. I’m going to make one of the two this year, I’m just not sure which one.
I hope Harmony is just being cagey about this film for a reason and it really will start to film this year, otherwise why would MadRiver have come on board. Â Curious and curiouser – is it Jamie Foxx he’s talking about or Idris Elba? Â From Dazed:
“Your next movie is The Trap. Have you started filming?
Harmony Korine: No. I’m still figuring it out. I was supposed to shoot it last year. We were two weeks out. I got as close to shooting as you could be, and then I had issues with one of the actors. We had to pause the film, and then the movie got pushed back on the dates. I don’t really want to go into specifics, but it was more of a personality thing with one of the actors.
So, we put a halt to the film and recast the movie. We’re supposed to wait until this May to shoot it. I just have this thing where I lose interest in things after a while. Even though that movie was ready to go, I have this other idea for a film. An idea kept cracking me up and cracking me up. I spent the last couple of months writing this thing, and I’m pretty much almost done with this script. I feel like I’m maybe going to do this new one first.
A different cast?
Harmony Korine: It’s a totally different movie. I don’t want to talk about the idea yet. But I will say, it’s very funny. It’s closer to a cross between a Cheech and Chong movie and that movie Scarecrow.”

Definitely more positive!
From Amuse:
“I heard about your movie The Trap (about an ex-con seeking revenge against a gangsta rapper, starring Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson and Al Pacino) at Cannes last year – what’s going on with it?
We were supposed to shoot it last year but we had issues with one of the actors, so we were meant to start shooting it this May but I have a tendency to lose interest really fast. I was so close to doing it too – I had the whole thing storyboarded and ready and financed. I’ll still make it and I’ll still be making a movie this year. I got antsy waiting for The Trap to happen so I wrote another script.
Your films really speak of the moment they come out – how important is the timing of when you make and release them?
Exactly, it’s very important. So, I know I’ll be directing a movie this year, whichever one happens quicker. At the same time, I’ve worked my whole life with film, building it up to a point where this specific language is a vernacular for a specific type of film that’s aligned with me or my ideas, and at this point, I really feel like I’m just getting to the point where I’m capable of doing what I was meant to do.”
Remember back in May 2015 we posted that Mad River were edging closer to co-finance and co-produce Harmony Korine’s The Trap?  Today I tweeted an article from The Tracking Board that mentions that Marc Butan (Mad River) will release Lost City of Z this year and it also mentioned at the end that it was also developing Harmony Korine’s “The Trap”.
IMDbPro also lists “MadRiver” under “Production Companies” which is a good thing … right. Â One step closer I hope.
I posted Ioncinema’s 25 Most Anticipated Studio Film’s yesterday that included Lost City of Z and now The Playlist has joined the party with their list of 100 anticipated films. Not only have they included The Lost City of Z at no. 9 and High Life at no. 13, but The Trap also rated a special mention.  It didn’t escape me that 2 of Rob’s films are in the Top 20, if there was solid information about The Trap it would have been 3.  See it’s not just us that are waiting with bated breath.   Here is what they had to say:
“9. “The Lost City of Zâ€
Director: James Gray
Cast: Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, Angus Mcfadyen
Synopsis: A group of British explorers search for a colonel who goes missing trying to find a lost city somewhere in the Amazon.
What You Need to Know: Although he frequently earns comparisons to his New Hollywood buddies Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s easy to forget that James Gray is only five films into an already-impressive career. “Little Odessa,†“The Yards†and “We Own the Night†are moody, classicist crime dramas indebted to the work of Sidney Lumet and Francis Ford Coppola, while “Two Lovers†and the mesmerizing “The Immigrant†respectively tackled the romantic melodrama and the grandiose period epic. His newest, “The Lost City of Z,†looks to be his biggest, most ambitious and perhaps strangest film yet. The unforgiving jungle locale hearkens back to the early, dangerous cinema of Werner Herzog, and something about the juicy-sounding premise evokes the naturalist brutality of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness†and the inarguable classic film the novel inspired, “Apocalypse Now,†which is one Coppola classic that Gray’s never borrowed from. As far as we’re concerned, Gray is five for five at this point, and we can’t wait to see what the director has up his sleeve with this epic-sounding drama.
Release Date: Gray’s a favorite at Cannes, so if it’s done in time, expect it there.”
13. “High Lifeâ€
Director: Claire Denis (“Trouble Every Day,†“White Materialâ€)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette, Mia Goth
Synopsis: A group of criminals agree to go on a suicide mission into space in the hope of finding alternate energy sources, and to take part in experiments in human reproduction.
What You Need To Know: If we could have guessed what arthouse queen Claire Denis would do next after the brutal “Bastards†from a few years ago, we wouldn’t have said ‘sci-fi starring R-Patz.’ And yet here we are, with Denis gearing up to shoot her first English-language movie, one excitingly penned by the great Zadie Smith and her partner, poet Nick Laird, with the ever-adventurous Pattinson and recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette starring. Though the subject matter is unusual for Denis, she’s never been afraid to play with genre, and it thematically should be up her street. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher is that, depending on the amount of effects involved, it’s not entirely certain whether it’ll be ready for this year.
Release Date: Shooting begins shortly, and given that, “Bastards†aside, all of Denis’ recent movies premiered at Venice, that would be the best bet if it’s done in time.
Special Mention: We’re Not Sure If This Is Still Happening in 2016, But It’s Highly Anticipated If It Is
“The Trapâ€
Director: Harmony Korine (“Trash Humpers,†“Spring Breakersâ€)
Cast: Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson, Al Pacino, James Franco
Synopsis: A gangster rapper is targeted by an ex-con recently released from prison.
What You Need To Know: As far as candidates for mainstream crossover status go, we’d have had indie world enfant terrible Harmony Korine fairly low on the list, and yet “Spring Breakers†proved to be a substantial hit in 2013, proving the eternal appeal of James Franco, as well as young women partying in swimsuits. It’s taken a little time for Korine to follow it up, but “The Trap†could end up making even more of a splash —if it’s still happening, as word’s been very quiet since the summer. A crime thriller, the director called it “sensory bombardment… a super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie,†which sounds alright by us. He’s got a great cast lined up (assuming everyone’s still involved: schedules change, and if it is keeping to the original plan, it would clash with Benicio Del Toro’s “Star Wars†shoot), and we can’t wait to see what kind of bonkers fever dream he cooks up this time. If we were 100% sure that this was definitely going to be released this year, it’d undoubtedly be in our top five.
Release Date: The film was supposed to get before cameras this month. Assuming that holds, it could be ready for a Venice premiere, as “Spring Breakers†did.
I’m liking the sound of Cannes and Venice because I love seeing Rob excited about being at these major film festivals. I also love the “ever-adventurous” comment. More importantly though I have my fingers crossed The Trap goes ahead because I really love the sound of Korine’s crazy.
According to Cinando, Parco Co Ltd has distribution rights for Theatrical, TV, DVD-video, VOD for The Trap in Japan.  That’s great news.  So that’s Japan, France, Germany, Switzerland and Canada all sorted. Taps foot for Australia.
