News seems to be coming out in dribs and drabs and nothing is confirmed, but according to  C7nema.net Mathieu Amalric has joined the cast:

“After much speculation, ‘Cosmopolis’ had finally, by the producer (Alfama Films) some news, confirming what we had said earlier. Robert Pattinson (Twilight: Breaking Dawn) and Paul Giamatti (“Shrink”) are even part of the cast, being accompanied by Juliette Binoche (Copy As) and Mathieu Amalric (Tournée).

Based on the homonymous book by Don DeLillo, author of bestsellers such as “Underworld” and “White Noise”, “Cosmopolis” follows a billionaire 28 years as it crosses the city of New York to get a haircut, which reveals a true odyssey. In between he deceives the woman is chased and attacked and eventually ends up losing his entire fortune, all in one day.

Who will also collaborate on the film is Howard Shore, David Cronenberg’s usual collaborator and author of soundtracks for the trilogy “Lord of the Rings” or “Silence of the Lambs.” Also Suschitzy Peter, Director of Photography at the usual universe of David Cronenberg, and has in its run movies like “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Crash,” will continue its partnership with filmmaker in ‘Cosmopolis’. Filming of ‘Cosmopolis’ will commence on May 24 in Toronto, Canada, and will last for nine weeks. Will soon be released new names involved in this project.

It is an April day in the year 2000 and an era is about to end. The booming times of market optimism — when the culture boiled with money and corporations seemed more vital and influential than governments — are poised to crash. Eric Packer (Pattinson), a billionaire asset manager at age twenty-eight, emerges from his penthouse triplex and settles into his lavishly customized white stretch limousine. Today he is a man with two missions: to pursue a cataclysmic bet against the yen and to get a haircut across town. Stalled in traffic by a presidential motorcade, a music idol’s funeral, and a violent political demonstration, Eric receives a string of visitors — experts on security, technology, currency, finance, and a few sexual partners — as the limo sputters toward an increasingly uncertain future. Based on the novel by Don DeLillo. (Giamatti plays the dual role of Benno/Levin/Richard Steers. / Production office opens Mid-March.)”

Note:  Filming is still set to commence 24 May 2011.

How exciting is this news – please be true.  I LOVE Juliette Binoche – she is BRILLIANT!   The English Patient & Chocolat – 2 of my most fave films!   Screen Daily tells us this:

“Veteran producer and Alfama boss Paulo Branco also talks about new productions including Cosmpolis’ growing cast”….. “He also said that there was now a confirmed shooting date for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis of May 24. Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche have also joined the cast”

Oh how I LOVE hearing Cosmopolis news.  Hmm question is, who would Juliette be playing.  I look forward to hearing more news.  Those who have read the book may be thinking what I am thinking.  I cannot wait to see Rob in the role of Eric.  Even more so now I’ve read the book which I really enjoyed.  May 24 – not far away now which means BD filming is getting closer to being done with *claps hands*  Bye bye Edward Cullen & helloooo Eric Packer.

Thanks to our elite affie LeRPattzClub & also RPattzBaby for the tip.

I swear news about Rob’s costars in Cosmopolis is starting to give me whiplash.  So the latest is that Keira’s NOT playing Rob’s wife in the film.  According to Linda Ge from Up&Comers:

Keira Knightley will not be appearing in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis”, the actress’s reps confirmed to us today. Knightley was brought into the casting conversation following some eagle-eyed fans seeing her name listed alongside star Robert Pattinson’s on the production company’s website. When the internet exploded with the news, her name was quickly removed and her reps declined to comment on her involvement until today, with a solid “she’s not in it”.”

I guess we will just have to wait and see whether this is in fact true or not.  Like I’ve said before, we didn’t find out about Emilie in Remember Me until a few days before production started so it’s anyone’s guess.  Seriously the role of Eric’s wife is almost as elusive as the wife herself.

Oh how I LOVE hearing Cosmopolis news.  MTV’s Josh Horowitz spoke to Paul at the Sundance Film Festival & of course asked him about Rob & Cosmopolis.   One thing this confirms is that the rumour of Paul’s involvement is true – straight from the horses mouth. Brilliant news! You can see what Paul had to say in the video below. Is only a small snippet, but I know you’ll all agree with me when I say – we LOVE to hear any little piece of info about the film.  My book is on the way to me & I cannot wait to start reading *claps hands*

Well I’ve been checking IMDbPro every day and guess what peeps – Keira is in – Paul Giamatti nowhere to be seen – now that’s a shame.  Ooh I wonder who will replace him.

and while I’m here – can I just say although we still have no news about Unbound Captives and whether this will ever go ahead, I noticed on IMDbPro the other day that there is some movement.  Remember when Ashok Amritraj was the producer with Hyde Park Films?  Yeah well that seems to have changed – now it’s Atlas Entertainment and no Ashok to be seen.  Go looky – maybe something is a happening … here’s the updated info in any event because I really really want to see Rob with Hugh and speaking comanche – pretty please.

Kate Ward from Inside Movies at EW.com can at least confirm that Marion is out, which we already knew, so I guess we just have to wait patiently to see if yesterday’s rumour about Keira is correct:

“Rob Pattinson will have to find a new leading lady: Marion Cotillard’s rep confirms to EW that the actress is no longer attached to David Cronenberg’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel, which follows a financial whiz who’s sidetracked on his way to get a haircut. The reason? Though some outlets point to Cotillard’s recently announced pregnancy, her rep insists that she no longer could participate in the film due to scheduling conflicts. (The actress is currently filming Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion.)

Cotillard isn’t the only actor to have left the project. Colin Farrell was originally attached to play the leading role in the feature, but was replaced by Pattinson when he dropped out. As for Cotillard’s replacement: Internet rumors claim Keira Knightley will fill the Inception actress’ shoes, but Knightley’s rep told EW that nothing could be confirmed at this time.”

In any event, we all remember that they only announced Emile de Ravin about a week before Remember Me started filming, so I’m not in the least bit anxious that there will be delays in filming.  I’m happy to be kept in the dark until they decide to unleash the lucky lady – besides all good comes to those who wait … the still of Georges last night was confirmation of that!
