From BrimstoneMovie:
Â
“Meanwhile, on a secret location, a ranch for #BrimestoneMovie is being built.”
I hope that this set location remains a secret much like The Rover did especially after hearing how much Rob preferred working on a set that didn’t have prying eyes. Look at the performance he gave as Rey thanks to no distractions. Rob said it himself. How anyone can ignore it remains a mystery to me.
Â
I know we already were aware of Rob’s films being sold at Cannes, but that doesn’t stop me from being happy they are included in the Screen International Sellers Guide. I can’t handle no real Rob at Cannes, so I’m doing the best I can do #damnit. I also didn’t find any mention of The Lost City of Z, but it’s been at Cannes previously so … if I overlooked I’ll remedy this post.

*Twirls* Love it when we get snippets of information concerning Rob’s films. Â @NewSpartaFilms. Â This tweet this morning
leads to this information and I love Nicki Hattingh’s comment:
New Sparta Films (UK)
So filming in Germany and Spain in June and then Romania later in the year ….
I missed @MartinKoolhoven’s tweet this morning so thanks to @liveloveartfilm and @deesoonz for the heads up.
Wowza imagine working on perfection.  Raimond van Soest instagram says “Ready to storyboard a new scene of Robert Pattinson!”
“Storyboard artist @raimondvs is working on getting Robert Pattinson just right!”

So Rob may not be attending Cannes, as far as we know, but some of his films are being marketed there this year. As I mentioned the other day, The Childhood of a Leader has “Promo Screening Pending” as it’s Cannes status on Cinando. What this means is that they are proposing to screen a promotional reel (not entire film obviously) to buyers at the market. I’m guessing since it still says “pending” they are working hard to finish whatever it is they want to show. I’ll keep you posted if and when it changes. Nothing is listed under the “Markets” tab of Protagonist yet, although they have a Cannes office listed on their Cinando page
Â
Update:Â 23/04/2015
Remember I said above that Protagonist still didn’t have anything listed under “Markets” tab for Cannes. Well that’s changed now. I hope we get news of distributors signing up. Look at that “Protagonist Promo Reel – Exclusive Footage”.

Note:Â Updates will be added to end of this post.
I enjoyed doing this for The Childhood of a Leader, when Carmel and I were trying to piece together whether it was based on fact or fiction. We know Brimstone is, in fact, fiction since Martin Koolhoven wrote the script, but what we didn’t know was much about Rob’s role other than he plays an outlaw. So below is what we do know so far with a list of my sources for how this was pieced together. I’ll update this post as more information comes to light:
- There has never been a film like this from The Netherlands. It’s been referred to as a “Gothic Western”
- Rob plays an outlaw called “Samuel”
- The movie is in four parts. Rob has a big role in just one of those parts.
- We know Rob has scenes with Carice van Houten since she owns the property where “Samuel” is hiding
- Principal photography is due to commence May 2015. The shoot is estimated to be a 70 day shoot May to July (estimate) and will be filmed in Canada and Europe.
- Martin Koolhoven is currently in Hollywood with Des Hamilton (casting director) for screentests|auditions.
- Film budget is between €8 to €11 million
- The movie is set to be released in 2016 possibly summer – June-August 2016. (I wonder if it may get it’s premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czech) which is held in July)
- “It will be fucking awesome”. Ok that’s a direct quote from Martin, but I happen to agree with him, because who really expected to see a film with Rob and Guy again so soon.
