Robert Pattinson talks about upcoming projects, directors and more with IndieWire
Â
Rob sure does like working with “Mia’s”. Also, I’m probably in the minority but I am still holding out hope for “Idol’s Eye”. Indiewire spoke to Rob whilst he was at the Savannah Film Festival for the Maverick Award and had some insight from Rob in relation to this upcoming films and collaborations. I noticed he didn’t mention Joanna Hogg, but I’m with Rob about hoping “The Devil All The Time” happens because it’s one of my favourite reads this year – quirky fabulous book:
Clair Denis’ Sci-Fi Project “High Lifeâ€: “It’s definitely nuts,†said Pattinson. “I just finished it last week. [Denis] is incredible. I’m not just saying that, she’s like one of the most fascinating people to work for. I was saying to her at the end of the shoot, she’s the most authentic punk that I’ve even met in my life. Just someone who can control a set. She’s so tiny, and to me she’s the most definitive auteur I’ve ever worked with as well. There’s disparate elements of the [‘High Life’] story. It’s just all over the place and I can’t waiting to see how she finds the throughline of everything, because it’s insane.â€
The Zellner Brothers’ “Damselâ€: “It’s got that same kind of ‘Kumiko [the Treasure Hunter]’ tone. It’s a funny movie I think, well I hope, I haven’t seen the final movie. I thought the script was very funny. It’s a very, very odd – ostensibly a western, but it’s like a feminist western comedy.â€
Antonio Campos’ “The Devil All the Timeâ€: “It’s got a really fun part in it. I hope it’s going to happen, I think it will. I love Antonio, I’m sort of friends with him as well and I think Mia Goth [“Cure for Wellness,†“Nymphomaniacâ€] will be in it, and she’s excited about it as well.â€
Olivier Assayas’ heist film “Idol’s Eyeâ€: “Every few months it kind of reappears again, but I think it’s happening with [Sylvester] Stallone, which is cool. I’m still always talking to them and seeing what’s going to happen, but I love Olivier.
Ciro Guerra’s “Waiting For the Barbariansâ€: “I saw ‘Embrace the Serpent’ that last day it played at the Sunshine in New York and the matinee was packed. I just knew Ciro Guerra’s next film was going to be amazing. I’m going to do ‘Waiting for the Barbarians’ with Mark Rylance.â€

Robert Pattinson Reinvents Himself (every couple of years)
Â
Rob recently spoke with Nicole Ferling of Vanity Fair about Good Time, accepting his charmed life and upcoming films. He also confirmed he would be in Ciro Guerra’s “Waiting for the Barbarians” which I pondered about back in July. Here’s the interview:
A few years ago, Pattinson received a psychic reading from a waitress/medium at a London restaurant who told him that his soul had lived many previous lives and the one he’s currently in was something of a reward for all his past lives’ hardships. “She was like, ‘This life is your soul just having a ride, having fun, just a roller coaster,†said Pattinson during a recent interview at his favorite Los Angeles restaurant that he asked me to keep secret.
“That’s generally how I feel,†he added. “It’s been fucking incredible. I really haven’t had any bad times. I’ve had a cruise from beginning to end.â€
Most of that cruising has been done on movie sets. Since he first appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in Vanity Fair when he was 16 (his scenes were eventually cut from the film) to today, Pattinson has worked consistently, jumping from set to set, including the four years he spent brooding as Edward, the tortured vampire with the sparkly skin and a desperate passion for the forbidden human Bella in Twilight, the series that sent his star power into the stratosphere. We all know how that fairy tale ended. What’s remarkable is that it did little to quell Pattinson’s own passion for the game. Rather, it taught him the importance of having good directors and solidified his quest to seek them out at all costs.
“That’s what film is to me,†Pattinson said of his single-mindedness about filmmakers. “It shows respect for the art form and the lineage of movie-making if you go after the people who influence everyone else.â€
