Robert Pattinson Tenet may not be released on 17 July 2020
According to Variety:
“Chris really would like to be coming out with the film that opens theaters,†Imax CEO Richard Gelfond said on a recent earnings call. “I don’t know anyone in America who is pushing harder to get the theaters re-opened and to get his movie released than Chris Nolan.â€
And that’s certainly the message that Nolan has relayed to the exhibition community. He has pledged to finish the film’s extensive post-production and visual effects work in the coming weeks and is fully committed to delivering the picture in time for its mid-July release date, despite the fact that social distancing has left many crew members fine-tuning things remotely.
…
However, some insiders still think that a July release is overly optimistic, pointing to the fact that coronavirus cases are still rising in many parts of the country. There’s also fears that the decision to loosen social distancing restrictions in states such as Georgia and Texas and reopen certain businesses will fuel new waves of infections, setting back plans for a nationwide return to cinemas. For now, most movie theater chains don’t expect to reopen before June. AMC and Cinemark, two the world’s largest circuits, suggest July sounds more realistic.
…
Insiders expect that the studio will make a decision within a week about whether to hold “Tenet’s†planned debut on July 17 or push it back deeper into 2020. That’s because Warner Bros. will need to start revving up its marketing campaign for the film, and it won’t want to spend tens of millions of promotional dollars only to have to move it.
Australian cinemas target July restart, pin hopes on Christopher Nolan Tenet starring Robert Pattinson
According to The Sydney Morning Herald:
Cinemas in Australia are aiming to reopen in July, with exhibitors describing the scheduled worldwide release of Christopher Nolan’s big-budget film “Tenet” as a “totem” guiding them towards re-emergence from the coronavirus shutdown.
The National Association of Cinema Operators, which represents the major chains, issued a statement late on Tuesday that said it was “enthusiastic about the prospect of reopening and is hopeful of conditions enabling it to do so in July”.
However, the association said operators will not reopen until the government advises it is safe to do so, and are likely to do so with reduced seating capacity because of social distancing measures.
Although the industry body has not indicated a precise date for reopening, several senior figures within the sector have indicated a target of July 16, the date Warner Bros has slated for Nolan’s high-concept time-travel action thriller, starring Robert Pattinson and John David Washington, the son of Denzel Washington.
…
If they do open in July, Australian cinemas will operate under very different conditions than pre-virus.
Precautionary measures to be introduced will include staggered session times and spaced seating, contactless and cashless transactions, sanitisation stations and increased frequency of cleaning cinemas.
Staff and customers will also be encouraged to download the COVIDSafe app.
Christopher Nolan expects Robert Pattinson Tenet to be released in cinemas in July 2020
Christopher Nolan would definitely want us to see Tenet in IMAX if possible. He’s apparently been working hard to ensure the film is released in July as we have previously posted. According to Rerelease News:
Christopher Nolan is hard at work to get “Tenet†into theaters this July, according to IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond.
“Certain filmmakers are very anxious to have their movies released,†said Gelfond on an earnings conference call this morning. “I don’t know anyone in America who is pushing harder than Chris Nolan to have the theaters open and to have his movie released in July when it’s scheduled for.â€
The CEO also noted that the company has adapted methods to continue working on the post-production of Nolan’s upcoming spy thriller, currently slated for a July 17 domestic release. “In the near term, we have incorporated a number of remote tools into our workflows and a range for select staff to have safe access to our post-production facilities so we can continue work on forthcoming titles like Tenet,†he said.
In late March, Nolan had penned an op-ed published in the Washington Post, writing that “it’s vital to acknowledge the prompt and responsible decisions made by all kinds of companies across our country that have closed their doors†and that “as a filmmaker, my work can never be complete without those workers and the audiences they welcome.â€
…
Despite mentioning Nolan’s efforts on releasing Tenet in July, Gelfond also noted that openings are expected to include library content and limited seating capacity to ensure social distancing at first.
