UPDATE: 31 AUGUST 2021
Batman on Film talk about Batman (for us novices) and Rob post featurette at Cinemacon. Great discussion.
25 AUGUST 2021: Although the footage has not been released to the public, here is what some of the attendees at Cinemacon have said about new footage and comments from Rob and Matt Reeves for The Batman:
From Comicbook.com:
While the footage has not been released to the public, ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis attended the event, and you can check out his description, including new quotes from star Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves, below.
“Bruce Wayne walks to ominous piano music. ‘For some reason, Batman has always stood to as one of the major characters of the 20th century,’ Pattinson says. We see him in the cowl, removing it. He says it is ‘radically different’ from other Batman movies. Reeves says we haven’t seen anything ‘grounding it the way Year One does.’ It’s not an origin story, but it is Batman in his early days. Footage shows Batman beating up goons, set in red light. Explosions, police officers, and dark chaos. ‘He’s really working out this rage,’ Pattinson said. ‘All the fights seem very personal.’ He uses various weapons to beat down enemies. A shot shows Andy Serkis as Alfred. The Batmobile drives, with flames coming from its exhaust. ‘We can’t wait for you to see The Batman in theaters, next year,’ Reeves says.” [My emphasis]
From The Wrap:
The featurette, followed by the DC Fandome trailer released last year, opened with what looks like chaos, with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne walking through Gotham. From there, he rises, and we hear Reeves promise an “emotional Batman movie†that we’ve never seen before. He also said it’s going to be “radically different†from any other Batman movie we’ve seen before.
…
Pattison also talked about how so many people have connected to the Batman character, and about how the film is a passion project for Reeves. … Reeves has described his film as a “defining†and “very personal†story about the Dark Knight, rather than an origin story in the vein of Frank Miller’s beloved “Year One†series.
The studio also showed off The Batman with a sizzle reel. The footage of The Batman comes almost exactly one year to the day after the first trailer debuted for the Matt Reeves-directed comic book film, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. The film also includes Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred, and villains such as Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin Paul Dano as The Riddler.
Reeves noted the film was partially inspired by Batman: Year One, the seminal work from writer Frank Miller, while Pattinson reflected on how this version of Batman is different than those seen onscreen before.
From Deadline:
Warners showed the same trailer from DC Fandome for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which is purely theatrical for 2022, currently dated on March 4, as well as some behind-the-scenes from the pic (i.e., shots of Batmobile stunts).

I’m only about 35 minutes into the video, but it’s been interesting to listen to. Three new fanboys there I’m thinking! Emotional, gothic, realistic Batman ….. delving into the psychological aspect of Bruce Wayne ….. sounds VERY appealing to me. I also love that one of the guys recognises Rob as “an actor’s actor”. I think we’ve got a LOT to look forward to!
