Robert Pattinson should be the next James Bond according to Danny Boyle
Update: 12 May 2022
Back in 2019, Danny Boyle told The Guard (see below) how great Rob would be as James Bond. No surprise then that during an interview with Esquire UK to promote his upcoming series on the Sex Pistols, Danny had this to say:
Is there any prospect of him returning for a future Bond instalment? “I don’t think so,” he says with a soft smile. Still, he talks excitedly about the prospect of an actor like Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), whom he had seen in a play at the Old Vic a few nights previously, taking on the role, before attesting, as he has before, that “[Robert] Pattinson would be a great Bond”, should he be willing to trade in the keys to the Batmobile for the DB5.
No doubt Rob would be an amazing James Bond … the question is does he want to be?
Update: 22 June 2019
The Guardian recently spoke to Danny Boyle about his fun new film “Yesterday”. Somehow in the mix he spoke about walking away from directing the next James Bond film and added his 2 cents about who he thinks should be the next Bond. Unsurprisingly (to us at least) he thinks it should be Rob. Here is what he had to say:
He insists he has put Bond behind him and no doubt that is true. But every now and then he is reminded of the bruising. Last month he went to see Claire Denis’s High Life and was especially taken by Robert Pattinson’s performance. “And it was so bizarre, because I was sitting there thinking: “Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond. Isn’t Pattinson a bit too young for the role? “? “No, no he scoffs. He must be in his 30s. How old was Connery? He’s ready now.
This may never happen, of course, but I like the thought of Rob taking over the movie world one iconic role at a time.
Updated: Danny Boyle also made the following comments to The Independent:
Danny Boyle has revealed who he would have picked to overtake Daniel Craig as James Bond.
The Mancunian director, who was set to direct Bond 25, said that Robert Pattinson would be his personal choice.
In an interview with The Independent that will be published on Monday 24 June, the director discussed how he was removed from his position helming Bond 25 amid reports of a disagreement with producers.
However, he was happy to speak about his thoughts on the franchise to date and who he thinks could take on the coveted role as the iconic spyI watched High Life, the Claire Denis film, a couple of weeks ago and thought f***ing hell, Robert Pattinson would make a great Bond, he said.
“He really would, He’s matured. He’s such a man now. Then when I came out of the cinema, it had literally just been announced that he was the new Batman.”
LOL it’s always good to read when acclaimed directors eventually jump onto the same page as us. For the record, we’ve been on that page for a while now ……
We sure have @Sue. Guess it’s better late than never for these other folks
