What started off as a quiet week finished off with a bang for me and Vertigo at least.  Some of you may have seen me tweet on Thursday that both Vertigo and I were at a preview screening for “LIFE”.  It’s always strange seeing Rob on screen.  I spend so much of my time looking at him that it feels like I’m watching an old friend, but then reality kicks in and I remember he doesn’t really know me from a bar of soap lol.  So for those interested I posted a collaborative review from myself and Vertigo.  If you don’t want spoilers, don’t read.  Although I didn’t put too many in as I didn’t want to take away from the initial viewing.  Just know Rob as Dennis Stock is something to see.  So whilst I’m talking LIFE, I’ll continue on with it.  LIFE:  I loved listening to Anton talk about why he chose to direct the film and the reasons he decided against filming in black and white.  I’ve updated the Aussie cinemas screenings post – Hoyts have now come to the party and so Western Australia now has screenings.  I’m still holding out hope for you Michelle that Tassie gets a screening.  Barbara tells me that it will be screened in Coffs Harbour, although I couldn’t find where, but the Roseville Cinema is now also screening here in NSW.  I’m also expecting Transmission might post a list of theatres screening the film closer to the release date. They often do it for their films.  Sitges Film Festival posted on their facebook about the film being included this year, which we knew, but we’re still waiting for a date to be confirmed.  LOST CITY OF Z:  Is most definitely filming and new cast mates for Rob are being added.  I tweeted about a few more on Saturday.  I have to admit, this was probably the one film of Rob’s I almost expected would never get off the ground, so I am pleasantly surprised it’s full steam ahead.  Lucky Tom Holland.  QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Although Germany is behind having preview screenings and screenings of the film, looks like Brazil has opted to go straight to VOD with Netflix debuting the film.  I fear this is the way to go with indie films which is sad because I’m going to miss the cinema experience if Australia follows the trend. By the way I asked Transmission on Thursday night what was happening with QotD, they are still waiting to lock in a date, but they expect it will be this year.  Will keep you posted.  Oh and for those interested, Nicole Kidman is appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on 27 August (that will be the following day for us I think) so it might be good to tune in since she may speak about this film.  If she does, I’ll let you know hopefully.  THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER:  That new still is quite chilling isn’t it.  Such an angelic looking child, but we know!  I also tweeted a beautiful still of Berenice that I came across on an Italian site.  I just wasn’t sure if we could post it so I didn’t take chances. It looks like Italy is in full promo mode for #Venezia72 since CIAK posted an article about Rob and the film.  I also came across The Max Theatre in Iowa listing the film as “coming soon”.  I think they are just eager beavers lol.  In other news, Film1 (Netherlands) is screening both Maps to the Stars and The Rover over the next few months.  Nick Osborne’s last book in the trilogy “Release” is now available for download for kindle at Amazon. I’ve updated the links in the post below.  For those wanting the actual paperback, this should be released in a few weeks.  I’ll let you know when it happens.  And ending of this weekly superbly with those 4 new photos of Rob in Cannes at LeGrand Journal. Holy mama that man is hot.  Until next week … when I hope Cinedigm really DOES tell us when the US release for LIFE is.

Thanks Maria. I must go and download “Release” now. Too impatient to wait for the paperback version …….
As for those 4 Cannes photos. What a way to end the week!
Thanks so much Maria – another superb week at RPAU 🙂 *mwah*
Ohhhhh! That is awesome! Due to the spoiler alert I didn’t read that post and didn’t piece 2 and 2 together that you and Vertigo saw Life. How bloody bloody bloody awesome!!!! AHHHH!!!
Is the trend for Indie films to miss the big screen? That would be a shame but I understand any model that allows film makers to keep some form of autonomy can’t be all bad. Yet nothing beats the shared experience of the big screen. I can’t wait for my little moment of heaven on Sept 10th
@Carmel we did indeed. And Rob is spectacular. Can’t wait to hear your reaction to the film 😀
@Sweet Maria. “Life” will be screening at Birch Carroll and Coyle in Coffs Harbour. from 10th September. just in case some of the potters are visiting Coffs on that day. sooo very happy xxx
@MARIA. I am livid. wanted to check the sessions for “Life” and just phoned BCC head office in Brisbane because I couldn’t find the add for it anymore, what pin heads ###*&%@@@. Holy bald arse dunderheads. The woman said it was pulled by the Distributer because it has received bad reviews!!!! WTF the same thing happened when I phoned to inquired about “The Rover” I was informed it would not be shown here in Coffs, then weeks later there it was, I was dancing around the house with glee.
At the moment I am holding the rosary beads, taking very deep breaths and swearing like a bloody sailor in fact popeye the sailor man would be very impressed. So Sorry Maria for that miss information. I will go and sit in the corner wearing a dunce hat for not phoning the bald arse dundereheads before I posted. grrrrr I am so pissed off.
@Barbara I find that comment about it being pulled by the distributor as very odd. The cinema pays the distributor a portion of their earnings and screening fees. Why would a distributor remove a film from a cinema if the cinema was willing to pay for it? I think BCC decided to pull it because it read the bullshit reviews from Berlin. Perhaps you might want to send them a copy of the Movie Review link I’ve done since Mexico – there hasn’t been one bad review. Nudda. I would put it in if there was but I’ve not come across one. Plus I can contact Transmission and ask them.
@Maria, I am still so cranky I feel like sending the “Life” reviews to the head office of BCC in Brisbane. to forward on to Transmission I haven’t been this angry since I phoned them to find out when “The Rover ” was going to be shown and the guy asked me to spell it!!!
Don’t these people check out the coming films you would think working in a Cinema the staff would be movie buffs and would know most of the movies due for release. As for Transmission apparently they said they do not want to put money behind it.!! I am livid and disgusted I still haven’t calmed down.
@Barbara I don’t believe that at all about Transmission. They are the sister site of See-Saw Films who are the producers of the film. They’ve already put money behind it by taking out the distribution rights. I saw and spoke with Transmission last Thursday at the press screening. They have more than one press screening – does that sound like a company that doesn’t want to put money behind it.
I know how cinemas work – I have had it explained to me by one of the managers of a local cinema. They pay the distributor to screen the film. Not the other way around. I’d say that it’s BCC that doesn’t want to put money behind it fearing a loss if they don’t sell seats. The longer a movie runs the less they pay the distributor.
Saying Transmission doesn’t want to put money behind it is just plain nuts. I’m tempted to tell Transmission that’s what BCC is saying.
Update: I just reread this and I hope you don’t think I’m having a go at you Barbara because I’m not. I just think BCC are telling porkys. Anyway leave it with me and I’ll see if I can get to the bottom of this 🙂
There’s something terribly wrong with my screen – one half of the comments are hidden behind a bloody black bar! I’m so dumb I have no idea how to fix this problem and it’s pissing me off ‘cos I love reading everyone’s comments! Anyway, thanks for your wonderful weekly wrap-up, Maria. So looking forward to seeing ‘Life’ – lucky you and Vertigo having already had a preview!
@Maria. I do not think you are doubting me at all ,I have emailed Transmission and also sent the reviews with my email. I am so upset to have been told that. hoping to receive an answer to my email. xxx
Excellent work @Barbara – let me know what happens.
Oh no @Trish that does not sound good – it might be a screen resolution? Did you somehow change it without realising or it might sound like an issue with your graphics card? I’m not sure what computer you use – you might need to update the graphics drivers – see if there’s an update pending and you need to do it. That’s about as techie as I can get.
That is awful Trish 🙁 Hope you can get it back to normal asap.
Thanks, girls – without me having to do anything, things have reverted to normal. Weird or what?!
So glad all’s back to normal Trish 🙂 🙂 Technology is so BIZARRE. Leaves me scratching my head on a daily basis!
