If I said I had a gut feeling that we would be getting new film news this week you would probably think I was just making it up, but I swear it’s like a sixth sense when it comes to Rob and his projects. How great was it waking up on Friday to news that Rob would be starring in the Safdie brothers new film “Good Time”.  I know some assumed Rob was at the Heaven Knows What premiere as a friendly gesture to one of the producers of The Trap – Charles-Marie Anthonioz – who is also an executive producer on the Safdie Bros film. Anyway whatever the reason Rob was there seems to have paid off for us. And speaking of the Safdie Bros – for Melburnians – MIFF is doing the first Australian retrospective of the Safdie Bros films and Josh and Benny will be attending as special guests. On 3 August 2015, they will be taking part of “Talking Pictures A Conversation with Josh and Benny“. If only I lived in Melbourne … if only.  The thought is that “Good Time” will be shot once Rob completes Lost City of Z.  I noticed on 11 July 2015 that Sierra Affinity has LCoZ listed as in “pre production” on their website – so fingers crossed we hear of Rob disappearing off into the jungle soon.  Now onto other film news. LIFE:  Variety came to the party and confirmed that the film will in fact be part of the Sitges Film Festival. I updated the post if you’re wondering why it’s appearing in this week’s wrap up.  It’s also screening in July at the Freiburger Film Festival in Germany and Anton Corbijn will be attending the premiere in Belgium.  That’s going to be an interesting event for sure.  Always love hearing the directors take on working on the film. Then we were treated to some wonderful new stills of Rob as Dennis Stock and some BTS shots of Rob with Anton Corbijn.  I’m in love with the still of Rob sitting on the bed. Also, the French distributor posted an alternate theatrical poster on their website and it interestingly now contains the logo for the Deauville American Film Festival.  It really makes me think that there may be a French premiere on 9 September 2015 at the Festival since it runs from 5 to 14 September 2015.  I guess we shall know by the end of this month. QUEEN OF THE DESERT: Now has release dates in Austria and Egypt.  Sorry Carmel I will make sure I send you a text when it is in fact the actual “Australian” release date.  THE TRAP: Still unsure of Rob’s involvement with this film, but nevertheless, Focus Features is definitely on board to distribute theatrically in the US. Now it’s just a waiting game.  MAPS TO THE STARS:  Venezuela pushed its release date back to the end of July.  Ecuador, although I haven’t posted anything about it recently, still has the film listed in “coming soon” at Cineplex – don’t worry I check it regularly.  One of the things I have found checking overseas theatre and film websites is how many of Rob’s films don’t actually make it to cinemas overseas.  I feel really lucky that Australia seems to get on board, at least in some major capital cities, in screening all of Rob’s films.  Other bits and pieces, Michelle treated us to a montage of Mr Majestic.  Cannot believe that was 6 years ago. The Japanese website for The Rover was expanded with a few more features.  I love the Japanese’s enthusiasm for promoting films.  They always seem to create a separate website for all of Rob’s films.  Can’t wait to see what next week unfolds – I predict a trailer for LIFE. Just putting it out there. And before I go, on a non Rob issue, I just finished reading the draft of Nick Osborne’s final book in the trilogy “Release”. For those who have been patiently waiting for the end of this story, the wait is almost over – it should be released at the end of this month. I’ll keep you posted. Until then …
