Okay let’s not get our hopes up, but this Assayas’ article in GP about Clouds of Sils Maria appeared in my inbox today.  It’s in Swedish, but this time I was quick to use Google Translate and well ….

Next, you direct Robert Pattinson’s and Robert de Niro in Idol’s Eye?

Yes, if all goes as planned, we begin filming in March in the US. It is a dark mafia thriller with reality background, set in Chicago in the 1970s. But the film is punctuated by some financial trouble, so keep your fingers crossed.”

This article is published 6 February 2015 to coincide with the Swedish release of Clouds.  I checked IMDbPro and it is in fact being released 6 February 2015.  It doesn’t say it’s an old interview, but maybe it is.  I can’t recall Assayas ever saying it was filming in March, but I’m happy to be proven wrong.

I did notice yesterday in International Film Trust’s press release about “Cell” it did state:

“IFT’s slate includes … IDOL’S EYE starring Robert De Niroand Robert Pattinson”

but I thought it might have been bad proofreading or old information.

ZOMG.  Please be true.  I hope that financing gets sorted.  Maybe Assayas should consider crowdfunding from Rob’s fans … anyway it gives us a little hope – yes?

I originally said this article was in German.  Thanks to the keen eye of @Anlimara she alerted me to my faux pas.  She also shared this in our comments:

“Great to hear there is hope. In winter I read my copy of Les Inrockuptibles with the long Assayas article, and according to that, it was not necesserarily everything lost about Idol’s Eye, saying that the American producer is still looking for a solution, but keeps Assayas hanging with empty promises for new filming start dates in February, March and so on. The article was written in early December.”

And Anlimara your English is pretty damn good.

“crowdfunding” ~ where do I sign up? Hell yeah, I’m serious. Sometimes I just wish they’d ask! Oh, how I’d LOVE to have THAT conversation with the hubby ……

A ray of hope, but we take what we can get. Let’s hope the Gods hear our prayers. Of course, if the Gods were female, funding would surely be sorted by now ……

Crowd-funding – Rob need never be unemployed ever again. Wouldn’t it be great if fans could actually support a project before it was made rather than wait til after it was released? The old Hollywood system would become obsolete. True fans aren’t looking for a financial return – we just want to see our favourite stars and filmmakers doing stuff! Thanks for giving us the tiniest bit of hope re: Idol’s Eye, Maria. Count another one in for the prayer circle…

The article is in Swedish – LOL ! I hoped it is in German because then I would have been able to read it *g*

LOL @Anlimira I wondered why I thought it was in German when it was about the Swedish release. I’ll correct my post and thank you for letting me know. I think I was just so excited that I got confused.

Before the cancellation Idol’s Eye was scheduled for filming here in Ontario for November 2014 – January 2015. Part of the reason for these months was that the original story takes place in Chicago winter, January and February. The outdoor scenery has to look like winter. No leaves on trees, no green grass, less sunny skies, natural snow or even man made snow, people’s breath showing in the cold air, etc. To start filming in March of any year in my opinion would be too late. For this reason I don’t believe filming will commenced in March. Perhaps the idea is to get financing settled again by March. Lets hope for a return to filming in late fall, early winter of 2015

That’s interesting @Domenic and thanks for commenting. I think I might agree that Assayas was just putting it out there to let us know not all is lost. Fingers crossed that something good happens and we see this film. Would be a shame otherwise.
