As some of you know The Screen Producer’s Association of Australia is conducting a seminar in Melbourne between 18 and 21 November 2013.  Although this is an industry event, it is open to anyone.  Of interest to most of us will be the following Masterclass held between 10.30 am and 11.15 am on Wednesday 20 November 2013:

“The Trans-Pacifici Partnership:  A Case Study on Financing “The Rover”

The Rover is a rare film – co-produced by a top flight Australian and top-flight US producer with significant foreign money; all built on the promise of David Michod making his second film, and a very strong cast. How did it all come together?

The key players in the financing of The Rover will tell the story of how their involvement started, how the finance plan was created, and what made it such a great deal for everyone.

The session will explore the inception and development of the project, but focus on the deal-making process, what each party brought to the table and what they took away from the project.

The Rover provides a model for cross-Pacific partnerships and how Australian talent can work with American know-how.

Speakers:

Liz Watts, Producer, Porchlight Films

Zachary Studin, Vice President of Production, Lava Bear Films

Bec Smith, Agent, UTA Independent Film Group and Motion Picture Literary Department

John Zois, Director, Acquisitions & Production, FilmNation Entertainment

Moderator & Session Producer

Alex Sangston, Senior Manager, Producer Offset and Co-production, Screen Australia”

If you are considering attending, you can click here for registration details.

For those who won’t be attending (like me), you will be happy to know that the SPAA has advised me that it is proposing to film this event and upload to their website a week or two later.  Of course, we will let you know as soon as it is available.  Thought you would all be happy to hear that.  I know I was.

How exciting does this sound? I’m sure they’d have my undivided attention.

Let’s see,. Masterclass for $275. Flights, accommodation …… how exactly am I supposed to ‘sell’ this idea to hubby without seeming like a desperate woman in need of her Rob fix? Maybe if I just say “Masterclass” he’d think it was cooking related? haha

Thanks for the info Maria. The upload might be as close as I get to this one……

Damn long distance, but thank the stars for Youtube – can’t wait to see this, if they upload. Thanks, Maria for passing this on. @Sue, you crack me up – cooking related… LOL

LOL @Sue. I think the $275 is on top of the day pass for $765 though – in any event it’s not cheap! Hence why I contacted them to see if something else was available.

I do like your “cooking class” excuse though … hmmm wonder if we could get group discount.

@Maria ~ group discount? Sounds like a plan…… although maybe NOT if it’s @275 on top of the day pass!

Yep, I’d be happy to. This would be my very first Rob thing I’d be attending, I’m aware that Rob won’t be there but I’d feel some connection. 😀
