Robert Pattinson has a new cover and interview Les Inrockuptibles (France)
Rob was interviewed by Jean-Marc Lalanne for Les Inrockuptibles and here is an extract of what you can expect from the interview out on 7 November 2018 (Google translation):
Robert Pattinson plays the leading male role in Claire Denis’ High Life .
Meet at the Chateau Marmont hotel with a movie-goer, brilliant … and funny. In a luxuriant greenhouse misted with steam, or in a complex junction of decrepit sheet-metal corridors, the man with short hair, his hard gaze, his sharp body, advances with the assurance of a wild beast on the watch. He is sometimes accompanied by a child of a year or two, who is snuggled against him or holds by the hand to make it walk with the care of a large mammal reproducing ancestral gestures. These are the first sequences of High Life (read review) , meditative tale that takes place in the space of Claire Denis and mute convict locked in a spaceship, Pattinson says physical power, presence, really bluffing.
Six years after the end of the Twilight saga , which made him the young male on whom the whole planet fantasized, Pattinson continues to explore the most daring plans of world cinema, even at the price of its market value as a young Hollywood star.
When we meet him, his mane concealed under a cap screwed upside down, the pace unkempt, we say that he gives himself some trouble to hide this convulsive beauty, which resurfaces in a flash as soon as our photographer enjoins him to take off his cap and place himself in the light.
What emerges in life is nevertheless very far from the somewhat dark aura of both Twilight and the great filmmakers who followed (Cronenberg, Safdie, Denis …). The young man, on the contrary, is a little clown, makes jokes all the time and laughs like a child. In a suite of Chateau Marmont, which he claims “know all the rooms” , the two hours in his company were therefore particularly happy.Where do you get this curiosity for international auteur cinema, which takes you from Werner Herzog to Colombian Ciro Guerra ( Embrace of The Serpent ) through Claire Denis?
In fact, I think it comes from … Jean-Luc Godard! He is responsible for everything (laughs). You know, I was not a teenager especially a movie buff. But one day, a little by chance, I discovered Breathless (1960). And that was the source of everything: both my desire to become an actor and my way of behaving in life.
And the director of photography for Les Inrockuptibles shared the untagged cover on his instagram and tagged the photographer Todd Cole – thanks Todd. We will post full interview as soon as it’s available.
