I can confirm that at around 7.30 pm tonight the screencap below was exactly how the cast looked for The Trap. That’s taken from my history – thank GOD I went onto the page tonight. And now I was going to look for something else and noticed no more The Trap on Rob’s page.
At 7.3o pm – Rob was still in the cast as rumoured
At approx 9.30 pm – no The Trap on Rob’s projects in development
And here’s what the cast looks like for the film on The Trap film page – no more (rumoured) against Pacino or Franco
So whether Rob’s still negotiating or whether he’s decided to drop out – am sure we shall hear. Let’s see what unfolds in the next 24 hours. I am going to cry if I have to let go of leather clad Jimmy AND oozie surfing Max in the last 6 months. Why Rob WHYYYYYYY! lol
PS. If this has changed in the morning I’ll update don’t you worry. But I’m beginning to think it wasn’t coincidental that the Screendaily article about MadRiver and Marc Butan said ”
“The new venture is also edging closer to co-finance and co-produce Harmony Korine’s The Trap with Dcm and Le Grisbi’s John Lesher.
Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, James Franco and Al Pacino will start work in early 2016 on the revenge tale set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene …”
And here’s what IMDb is showing at at 6.45 am 28 May 2015.  I’m not sure what’s happening because different people are seeing different things on IMDb.  If I go to Rob’s page on IMDb nothing is there for The Trap.  The screenshot below is from The Trap’s IMDb page.  I’m just providing what I’m finding. I’ve searched on a home computer and a work computer so it’s not the history of my laptop showing Rob.  Let’s just wait and see what unfolds – it’s no drama.  Something else is around the corner if this doesn’t go ahead *shrugs*
Update:Â 31 May 2015
So the above screenshot was from The Trap’s page and I can confirm that Rob doesn’t appear on any IMDb at this stage. But the “is he/isn’t he” game continues because AJ Ensor posted this on his Facebook page earlier today:
Thanks to @Robjectify for the heads up.
I’m just posting this to show what is out there on the internet. I got some heat this week for even bringing this up because IMDb isn’t accurate (although I’ve found over the years when it suits it’s seems to be considered 100% reliable) *shrugs*. Anyway, I’ll continue to post whatever info is found regardless. We know that Miami Talent were talking about starting to look for casting back in January when Jamie Foxx was still attached. Explore Talent also had some interesting info on smaller roles to be cast. I also think that if Rob had truly pulled out of this film then we would have heard something by now from Deadline or Screen Daily, but then what do I know I’m just an armchair expert lol.
if the movie is still there and Robert isn’t I’d better not express my poor opinion on Rob film choices. I’m so upset about it. There’s not much on the horizon….
*sob* NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! It’s like losing Idol’s Eye all over again! Chocolate… I need chocolate….NOW!!!
I am heartbroken! I wish I knew what was going on… I’m with Trish, too!
Thank you, Maria, for updating us. 🙂
As if IE wasn’t bad enough. Going to work sad but hoping there’s some mistake.
I can’t believe this. Already the feeding frenzy of the rabid fandom are squeaking with joy. I agree with Roberta there is little on the horizon, and yes we really do have to question his choices, maybe he needs someone who has his best interest at heart.
There are only so many Avant Gard shows to be pictured attending, we all know Hollywood has a very short memory when it comes to actors. I always remember Rob being asked why he was working so hard, and he said that in Hollywood there are so many good actors who haven’t worked for three years and he worried that if he didn’t work this hard he would be just like them forgotten. My heart breaks at the thought of that. I truly hope it doesn’t happen to him he is such a talented and gifted actor.
To be honest @Barbara I have little care about the “rabid fandom” because they thrive on drama. In fact they live their lives vicariously through people they don’t even know.
As for Rob’s career. Rob has also said on numerous occasions over the past 8 or so years “There are few scripts that interest me” and if he’s not interested then he won’t just do a movie role to keep his name out there. Maybe that’s stupid. Maybe it’s smart. Guy Pearce takes on little roles in obscure films that half of you haven’t even heard about. What was it that Rob said last June – if he can have a career half as successful as Guy’s he’ll be happy. Rob’s not in it for the fame or glory – he’s in it to do what he wants. I’m happy to sit by and watch him do whatever he chooses and I don’t need people who claim to be “authorities” on Rob sitting behind fake twitter handles telling me what I should or shouldn’t do (and I don’t mean you Barbara).
Honestly sometimes this fandom makes it difficult to be a fan of Rob.
@Maria please accept my apology I wasn’t putting the downer on Rob good grief I am a staunch fan, I just mentioned the piranhas and the way they pounce. I have said often that Rob is doing what Brad Pitt did after “Legends of The Fall” he did not wish to be the poster boy in big movies ,instead he chose small indie movies, he was honing his craft and that is what Rob is doing as he teams up with brilliant Directors, writers and co stars and of course the script has to interest him.
I am so sorry if I came across as a know all rabid fan it was not my intent. once again please accept my apology.
Perfectly put Maria, could not agree MORE.
Dear Maris. Could you please delete my post I didn’t really think it would come across like I was a rabid fan, I can’t believe I am this upset to think a response would bring me to tears. I have never wavered in my devotion to Rob and his talent . so to be thought of as part of the rabble is heart breaking.
@Barbara I think you misread my comment. Did you not see that I said “and I don’t mean you Barbara”. I was referring to the people on Twitter this morning and earlier this week that have decided to take potshots at me. I’m sorry if my response offended you.
@Barbara I wasn’t referring to you so no need to apologise 🙂
late to the party, but I’ll post my comment anyway. I think i’m the only1 seeing this as sth good! And I’m only basing it on hope. My thought was, has Rob finally decided to drop out of projects that keep getting pushed back and further back? Does this maybe mean that he might be more aggressive about work in the future and start pursuing projects with more definite production dates? I agree with the first comment of Barbara. It’s true, wether we like it or not, Rob is almost forgotten in the industry, he never comes up, not even as a potential candidate, for roles in Hollywood! He’s almost forgotten! He’s only pap famous now! And if his professional goal was to act once a year in obscure films, as Maria suggests, well then, he succeeded.
As an avid Rob fan for many many years, seeing Rob slip through the holes of Hollywood and be professionally forgotten is heart breaking for me. IDK, maybe he got disappointed with everything, none of his projects have worked out, maybe he got sad and gave up on it, I just don’t know. I’m only very very sad because things are not looking good for his career and worse of all, it seems like he’s not doing anything to change it 🙁
Hi @miki. Maybe you have hit the nail on the head about him dropping out of projects that keep getting pushed back. I believe that if he has dropped out of this its because he’s got something else lined up. Did you read the article I posted tonight from Dan Stephens? I don’t think he’s been forgotten by the industry. I just don’t think he wants to be the leading man. Rob isn’t doing anything different than what Johnny Depp, Leo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt did to forge a longer career. But time will tell I guess. Nice insights. Thanks for commenting.
@Maria. YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT THE RABID FANDOM? NOOOOOoooooooo! *giggles*
I have no doubts that Rob’s future will be bright, whatever it is. How could it NOT be? I just very selfishly hope he continues to share it with us in some small way ……
thanks maria! I’m glad this person is impressed by Rob, he was one of the few impressed by the Rover, not Rob’s fault, he did more than his best but the film just failed to impress. I assume it was a huge disappointment for Rob, he definitely had lots of hopes and expectations for this fi lm, like we all did.
Obviously Rob has charisma and has/had potential, but thing is, potential needs ambition, in order for ambition to bring opportunity and maybe opportunity brings success. That’s why I said above I believe he’s probably disappointed and not trying to make it in movies anymore. And I can’t blame him if he’s disappointed…Who would’ve thought QotD, a film from such an exceptional director, will be an utter fail with 0% in rotten tomatoes?? And Life doesn’t even have an american distributor yet!
I just hope he eventually comes out of whatever funk he is in (and soon) and starts to invest in his career again, because not many casting directors have him in their radars anymore…
I’m sorry if this is not what people are usually like to see, but honestly, I’m just pouring out my thoughts and my sadness…And my 2 cents is, career wise, things are looking pretty bad for Rob… :”'( .
hmmm..my comment doesn;t post?
this is weird…my comment response to Maria doesn’t post… :/
Anyway, trying again…
My 2 cents dear Maria is that, though a few people noticed the Rover, like Dan, most didn’t, mainly because the film failed to impress and was forgotten…what most outlets commented on anyway was how it bombed at the b.o.
Futhermore look at Qotd, who would expect 0% at rot.tom. or that Life would not have an american distributor yet! That’s why I said I think he’s disappointed and sort of given up, everything post-twi has failed!
sorry maria, I give up, seems my comments just won’t come through. Forget my previous comment it’s out of context
@miki sometimes comments go into our spam folder. Don’t take it personally, it’s just WordPress. Even my comments when I’m on my phone go into spam. Give it time if your comment doesn’t show it means one of us has to go in and approve it.
Maria, I just want to say you do a brilliant job in keeping us posted with what is available and I thank you.
