I just received my Screen Australia newsletter and who do I see featured in it … Rob. Twice. First there’s a snippet of Rob in The Rover in Screen Australia’s video “Australia’s World Class Talent” where Cate Blanchett, Dr. George Miller, Emile Sherman, Alex Proyas, and Joel Edgerton talk about the benefits of making stories with Australia.
Â
I love Emile Sherman’s comment that “There’s something unique about Australian talent that shines on screen”. I couldn’t agree more and for those who are thinking, why do I know that name, Emile is one of the producers for “Life”. Which is a nice little segueway into the second feature of Rob from my Screen Australia newsletter. They flipped the latest still and it definitely caught my attention.  “Life’s premiere at Berlinale was featured in their media release:
“Anton Corbijn’s Life will have its world premiere in a Berlinale Special Gala presentation at the Berlin International Film Festival next month. Life, a co-production between Australia, Germany and Canada, was written by Luke Davies (Candy, Reclaim) and produced by The King’s Speech producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman with The Whistleblower’s producers Christina Piovesan, Benito Mueller and Wolfgang Müller. A photographic assignment for Life magazine takes Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) on a tour across the US following James Dean (Dane DeHaan), capturing iconic images of the star and revealing a side to the actor only a few knew.
Life is one of eight Australian films selected to screen at the internationally renowned festival next month.
CEO of Screen Australia, Graeme Mason, said, “It is fantastic news and an honour for the team behind Life to have their film debut to the world in a coveted Gala screening at Berlin. That same recognition has been extended to all eight Australian projects invited to the festival. Having three features and five shorts at this prominent festival demonstrates the strength of our stories and talent. What’s more, two of the shorts were made by students, revealing the depth of emerging talent in Australia.â€
There is also a small mention about Queen of the Desert:
Oh Wow! If I knew about the Oz connection to Life ( and I bet I have been told by our thoroughly thorough Maria) – I had completely forgotten. That is exciting. As if I needed another reason to love this movie.
Really, I wonder if there is any way it can live up to my through-the-roof anticiaption
BTW @ Michelle – the Fave pic of the day – The Harry Met Sally scene seems appropriate
All sorts of intriguing sounding films in this round up – I’m going to go for a hunt around on Google later to check some of them out. Thanks, Maria! This site not only provides me with all sorts of Rob news and goodies, it also pique’s interest in other projects. Thanks also to whoever is responsible for the ‘current mood’ gif – I’m loving it!
@Trish the current moods are always me.
@Carmel and Luke Davies the screenwriter for Life is one of David M’s best mates. That I got straight from the horses mouth in January last year because Luke was with David at Flickerfest, although he’d left by the time David told us that bit of gold.
@Maria – Really? Well that is very interesting. He wrote Candy, I believe. That one is on my reading wish list. What an extraordinary group David has around him. I do hope Rob gets to work in that circle again.
@Carmel he did write Candy. It’s a small world and yes amazing talent is drawn to amazing talent. I’m just guessing but am pretty sure if an opportunity arises Rob will jump on it to work with them again.
